Extreme Makeover: Road Edition
Lyndale Avenue South, which runs along the neighborhood’s western edge, is a crucial corridor in the area, which many people use to commute. Unfortunately, the road has a history of being dangerous and inaccessible due to poor infrastructure for walking, busing and biking. Speeding traffic, narrow sidewalks and chaotic crossings make it difficult to get around. Luckily, the county plans to reconstruct the street in 2026, rebuilding the road from scratch. In the summer of 2023, community discussions were opened up for residents to share the changes they wish to make in the road’s makeover. So far, the vision includes protected bikeways, convenient bus rapid transit services and an accessible, walkable streetscape.
Lyn-Lake is a a commercial district in Lyndale full of shopping and dining.

There are a good amount of opportunities for people who want to work in the restaurant industry, but as someone trying to get out of that area, it can be hard to find a job. I am looking towards working in the art field, namely around history and education, and I cannot find a paying job in my field at all. There are a lot of unpaid internships, but it can be hard to slave away at an internship while going to school full time and still find money to pay the bills. In addition, flexible retail jobs only start at minimum wage, which is very hard to live off of.
