What people often pay for bungalows and Tudor-style homes
Northrop is filled with a mix of Craftsman-style bungalows, Tudor-style houses and traditional story-and-a-half homes, among others, helping the area feel far from cookie-cutter. Much of its housing was built in the early to mid-1900s, and many homes have retained details like hardwood floors, built-in cabinetry and decorative woodwork while upgrading spaces like kitchens and bathrooms. They can also have modern insulation and other changes that block noise from overhead planes. Prices can range from the mid-$100,00s for a simple bungalow to the mid-$900,000s for a four-bedroom Tudor-style home. The neighborhood tends to be more expensive than nearby communities like Bancroft, Bryant and Regina, but it is much less expensive than Hale to the south.

Along the community's southern edge, Minnehaha Creek has scenic trails that wind along its banks. But the region’s biggest draw is Lake Nokomis Park, around a mile and a half away, which is popular for its beaches, fishing piers, boat launch and sports courts. Visitors can rent canoes, kayaks, paddleboards and swan boats at the lake. The area is encircled by jogging and biking trails that connect to the smaller Lake Hiawatha Park and Hiawatha Golf Course, giving people even more places to spend a day.
