The Hale neighborhood has easy access to Lake Nokomis.
Hale puts residents close to restaurants, an airport and Lake Nokomis
Hale is a quiet, suburban neighborhood in the Nokomis community of southern Minneapolis, and it shares many of its restaurants and businesses with the surrounding communities of Page and Diamond Lake. Residents can easily walk or bike from their bungalows and Tudor-style homes to Lake Nokomis Park for a day at the beach or on the water. The area offers convenient drives to both downtown and Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport.
What homebuyers typically pay for bungalows and Tudor-style houses
Much of Hale’s housing was built between the 1920s and the 1950s, bringing with it many Craftsman-style bungalows and Tudor-style homes from that era. Prices mostly range from the lower $300,000s to the upper $600,000s, though select larger or newer homes can go for more, up to just over $1 million. There are a handful of duplexes and triplexes that can run from the lower $400,000s to the mid-$700,000s. The neighborhood is generally more expensive than surrounding communities like Diamond Lake, Keewaydin and Northrop, though it is less expensive than nearby Page. Homes in the southern part of the neighborhood often include upgrades to help reduce airport noise, such as additional insulation.

The neighborhood joins forces with surrounding communities
The neighborhood is in the larger Nokomis region of southern Minneapolis, west of Lake Nokomis Park. Because Hale and the communities around it are mostly residential, they have an overlap in restaurants, parks and businesses. “Hale, Page and Diamond Lake tend to get lumped together” in people’s minds, says Andrea Vorachek, a Realtor with Reside who sells in the area. That led to the formation of the Hale-Page-Diamond Lake Community Association, which hosts events like garage sales and an annual Frost Fest celebration, which combines ice skating with food trucks and other activities. The association also helps residents connect with volunteer and fundraising initiatives to support the greater community.
The suburban area’s gridded streets are lined with trees whose leaves turn red and orange in the fall. Well-kept sidewalks make it easy to reach a friend’s house or a park. Front yards are mostly grass, with a few bushes lining each house. “I think people like that it’s a little quiet,” Vorachek says. “People love it and tend to stay for a long time.”
There is a large playground for families on the northside of Lake Nokomis.

Students are part of highly rated Minneapolis Public School District
Students are zoned for the highly rated Minneapolis Public School District. Hale Elementary School, which also gets top marks, is in the neighborhood. Students can also attend any school outside of the district that has enough space, thanks to Minnesota’s open-enrollment policy. Nearby private schools like the highly rated Our Lady of Peace Catholic School are another option, as are citywide magnet schools that use lotteries to determine enrollment.
Canoes, kayaks and sailboats are available to rent at Lake Nokomis Park.
You can hit the water or take a bike ride along Minnehaha Creek
Residents can walk to Lake Nokomis Park for its beach access, boat launch and fishing pier. Canoes, kayaks, paddleboards and swan boats can be rented at the park, which also has sports fields, an ice rink and a jogging and biking path. The Minnehaha Parkway Regional Trail, which runs along nearby Minnehaha Creek, can take cyclists west to the Minneapolis Chain of Lakes or east past Lake Nokomis. Just outside the neighborhood, Solomon Park has an archery range, and Pearl Park has several sports courts, a wading pool and a playground.
Minnehaha Regional Park, around 3 miles away, is one of the city’s most popular green spaces. It’s home to Minnehaha Falls, a 53-foot waterfall, as well as a disc golf course, volleyball courts, gardens and picnic areas.
Metro Transit buses run throughout the neighborhood.
Easy access to downtown businesses and stadiums
The neighborhood is roughly 6 miles from downtown Minneapolis, where national companies like Target have their headquarters, and people can watch Minnesota Vikings football games at U.S. Bank Stadium. The commute usually takes 10-20 minutes by car. Metro Transit buses make stops along Chicago Avenue and can get people downtown in 30-50 minutes. The community is around a 15-minute drive from the parking lots at Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport. Vorachek says she’s often careful about when she drives through the area, as there can be traffic during rush hour. “Cedar Avenue can be a bit of a struggle, because [state Highway] 62 feeds into it,” she says.
There are popular restaurants within a few miles

Hale is a really nice area and it is a great place to grow up. It's still nearby everything, but isn't right on top of the city. A really nice place to raise a family, and good schools nearby.
