Page combines well-kept homes with lake and airport access

Page is a small residential community in the larger Nokomis region of southern Minneapolis. The neighborhood is mostly filled with traditional and Tudor-style homes, but it is close to several green spaces, including Lake Nokomis Park, and there are popular restaurants within a couple of miles. Residents have convenient access to downtown via Interstate 35W and to Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport.

What people often pay for traditional and Tudor-style homes

Most of the neighborhood’s homes were built between 1925 and 1950. Many of them are traditional story-and-a-half homes and Tudor-style houses, but you can also find colonial homes, among others. Properties of 2,000 square feet or less often range from the upper $200,000s to the upper $500,000s, and larger homes can run from the lower $500,000s to the mid-$900,000s. The neighborhood tends to be more expensive than other communities east of Interstate 35W, like Diamond Lake and Hale, though it is often less expensive than neighborhoods west of the interstate, like Tangletown.

The hilly community comes together for annual events

Page is part of the larger Nokomis region of southern Minneapolis, and it is often grouped with two other neighborhoods on the west side of Lake Nokomis: Diamond Lake and Hale. They are supported by the Hale-Page-Diamond Lake Community Association, which hosts events like the annual Night of the Arts, which combines music, games and other activities. Though the three neighborhoods share many resources, Page has a lot of personality on its own, especially near Pearl Park. “There’s a real sense of community,” says Andrea Vorachek, a Realtor with Reside who sells in the area. “People gravitate to homes around that area. They very rarely go up for sale. People love it.” Streets can have steady inclines, and they are lined with trees whose leaves turn from green to red and orange each fall. Some homes along Hampshire Drive and Columbus Avenue South sit on top of small hills, with stairs leading down to the sidewalk. Front yards are grassy and can feature small bushes near the house.

Students are served by a highly rated district

Area students fall under the highly rated Minneapolis Public School District. They can also attend any school outside of the district that has space, thanks to Minnesota’s open-enrollment policy. Other options include private schools like the nearby Our Lady of Peace Catholic School, which is also highly rated, and citywide magnet schools that use lotteries to determine enrollment.

It's easy to get to downtown businesses and stadiums

Residents get easy access to Interstate 35W, which acts as the area’s western border. The community is roughly 6 miles from downtown Minneapolis, where people can commute to work for national companies like U.S. Bank and Target. It’s also where people can watch the Minnesota Vikings play football at U.S. Bank Stadium or see a show at the Guthrie Theater. The drive takes 10-20 minutes, depending on traffic conditions. There are also Metro Transit bus tops along Chicago Avenue, the area’s eastern border, and buses can get riders downtown in 35-50 minutes. It’s about a 15-minute drive from the neighborhood to the parking lots at Minnesota-Saint Paul International Airport.

Parks for playing sports and a lake for relaxing

Page is mostly residential, but there are several places within a few miles worth spending time:

  • Pearl Park offers sports courts, an ice rink and a playground
  • Lake Nokomis Park is popular for fishing, boating and relaxing on the beach
  • Diamond Lake Park provides walking trails and wetlands
  • The Museum of Russian Art has more than 13,000 works in its collection

A classic diner and a famous burger joint are nearby

There are no restaurants in Page, but there are several renowned spots within a few miles. “There’s a little hole-in-the-wall called Hot Plate that has been around forever,” Vorachek says. “It’s super funky on the inside, and they make solid food.” The eatery serves classic diner foods for breakfast and lunch. Heather’s, an elevated New American restaurant, has a covered patio. People who crave a taste of Minnesota can head to The 5-8 Club, which serves Juicy Lucy burgers stuffed with melted cheese, a regional source of pride. The closest grocery store is Kowalski’s Market along Chicago Avenue in Diamond Lake.
