Saint Anthony West
Neighborhood in Minneapolis, Minnesota
Hennepin County 55413
A neighborhood in transition
One of the older neighborhoods in the city, more than half of the housing inventory in St. Anthony West was built prior to 1939. The neighborhood has been targeted with revitalization efforts, which have spurred renovations and new construction, giving the area a modern feel amid the historic architecture. “A lot of new apartment buildings have gone up in the last five or six years. That transformation is going to continue,” Farah says. There is a mix of single-family, town houses and multi-unit dwellings. About half of the housing in the community are homes in buildings with more than four units. Because of its proximity to the university and the number of renters, the neighborhood is popular with investors and homeowners looking to live in an income property. Spacious, older homes that have been renovated list for between $400,000 and $600,000, while newer townhomes typically list for between $300,000 and $400,000.Boom Island Park
Boom Island Park makes up over 22 leafy acres on the western edge of St. Anthony West, much of it undeveloped riverfront. The riverside park offers a picturesque backdrop for a summer picnic and other outdoor recreation, with stunning views of the Minneapolis skyline in the distance. “Boom Island Park has been used tremendously. There are family gatherings, corporate events and it’s also where the 2024 Basilica Block Party is going to be, which is expected to bring 10,000 to 15,000 people,” says Sally Grans Korsh, vice president of the Saint Anthony West Neighborhood Association. The Basilica Block Party is an annual two-day music festival that takes place in August. It was set up to help fund the restoration of the Basilica of Saint Mary in downtown Minneapolis.Public schools
Students in St. Anthony West are served by the Minneapolis Public School District. Kids can start their education in nearby St. Anthony East at Webster Elementary, a public school with an overall C-plus rating from Niche. A short drive north away in Audubon Park is C-plus-rated Northeast Middle School. To incorporate nature into their learning, the school has a fabulous rain garden, and they are partnering with the neighborhood association to develop a 30x40-foot garden at the Northeast Market Garden. Students advance to C-plus-rated Edison Senior High School, which opened in 1922 and is named in honor of the famous American inventor. Edison offers beginner to college-level courses in Spanish, French and Ojibwe, a language spoken by the most populous Native American tribe in North America.Getting around the Twin Cities
Residents can hop on Plymouth Avenue North to get across the river to downtown Minneapolis and the Warehouse District. The neighborhood is located about equal distance between Interstate 94 and Interstate 35W, making it a sweet spot for commuters. Those in need of public transit will find two bus lines that traverse the community — one along 2nd Street and another on Broadway Street. For air travel, it’s about 15 miles from the terminals at Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport.Out and about in St. Anthony West

The 1029 Bar is a local favorite known for its award-winning dining, karaoke, charitable gaming and its squirrel mural on the side of the building.
