Rural living close to the city
On the outskirts of Murfreesboro, Plainview marks the transition from the busy Nashville metro region to the tranquil Tennessee countryside. “I wouldn’t say it’s in the country, but it’s on the way to the country,” says Brad Fowler, a broker with Century 21 Wright Realty. “There’s a few smaller restaurants in Plainview, and within minutes you’re out in big fields and farmland, where the houses have acreage rather than a quarter-acre lot.” Clusters of newer homes break up the rolling hills where agriculture still has a place, and cows and horses peek over fences into the backyards of modern subdivisions. Interstate 24 runs through the heart of the community, making Plainview close enough to town for a quick commute without sacrificing its open skies and fields that add to its rural appeal.

Architectural evolution in Plainview
Homes in the Plainview area have evolved over time, with single-story brick ranch-style homes dotting the landscape alongside active farmland and modern subdivisions.“In the neighborhood, the price range is anywhere from the mid-$300,000s into the low $400,000s,” says Fowler, a resident of the community. “That’s mainly the newer, larger homes, where there’s as much house on as little land as possible. Properties with acreage will be $600,000 and up for custom builds, where you can put as large a house as you want on those.” The manicured lawns within the subdivisions are sometimes accompanied by roundabouts designed to help traffic flow. Nearby townhouse communities offer units that sell for $265,000 to $350,000, and come with small back yards. Further out, modern farmhouse estates on 5 acres or more sell for $750,000 to $1.5 million, with empty lots and active farms sprawling across dozens of acres selling based purely on acreage. “It’s close to everything you need,” Fowler says. “It’s out far enough to be secluded, or for you to have your own yard in a neighborhood, several acres or everything in between. That’s what I love about it.”
