Music Valley
Home varieties at every turn
A wide variety of architectural styles line the streets of Music Valley, giving the neighborhood a very neat pattern of sidewalk-lined front lawns. Ranch-style residences with sizable yards are the most common in the area, typically made of brick or with painted siding. Larger, more ornate homes constructed in more traditional or Craftsman styles can also be found in Music Valley, and there’s even some French country-influenced designs and cottages. Prices rarely dip below $300,000 and typically range from that point up to about $400,000, with a few outliers having sold for higher. “Ocean Valley is bordered by the river, so there’s quite a few vacation-type homes,” Mazzu, who is also the Beautification Commissioner for District 15, says. “There’s older and newer homes and a wide variety of styles, including a few with water access.”Schooling close to Music Valley
Pennington Elementary School is where students in the Music Valley area can begin their education, and it serves pre-kindergarten through fourth grade. Pennington receives a grade of C from Niche, while Two Rivers Middle School follows for grades five through eight and receives a grade of C-minus from Niche while ranking as the third-most- diverse middle school in the state of Tennessee. McGavock High School completes the educational arc in Music Valley, graded a C by Niche and offering athletics like soccer, baseball and softball as well as clubs including astronomy, intramural sports and cheerleading.Riverside parks and recreation
The Cumberland River encircles most of Music Valley, running along the uppermost shore, and Lock Two Park is the only park specifically located within the boundaries of the neighborhood. Lock Two is also at the uppermost point of Music Valley, offering its visitors a playground, green space and access to a boat ramp feeding onto the river. Two Rivers Park is just south of Music Valley, spanning almost 400 acres with facilities for walking and biking alongside opportunities to skate, play disc golf or have a meal. Take to the Two Rivers Greenway’s extensive system of paved trails, or hit the course at Gaylord Springs Golf Links. “The Cumberland River is the biggest river in Nashville,” Mazzu says. “There’s no limit to boat engine size, so people can jump on the river and head downtown to watch fireworks on holidays.”Historic venues for entertainment
Just to the southwest lies the Grand Ole Opry House, in operation for half a century and with past performances including Elvis Presley, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn having taken place through its entrance walkway framed by sculptures of oversized guitars. Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen in Nashville is also located in Opry Mills, and the Opry Mills Mall also features outlets like a Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World. The Nashville KOA Resort, another local attraction, is just across Briley Parkway in Pennington Bend. “There’s a lot of shopping and vintage stores, including an amazing mid-century store called Dashwood Vintage & Flora that’s very popular throughout Nashville,” Mazzu says. “The proximity means there’s lots of entertainment options like axe throwing and escape rooms. It has great quality nightlife, bars and there’s several live music venues.”Local and national restaurant fare
Just across Briley Parkway, in the northeastern area of the peninsula, the Cock of the Walk Restaurant serves seafood and other meat right next to the Nashville KOA Resort. Chains, like Cracker Barrel, Bob Evans and Olive Garden, are located further south down the parkway, while just south is the Crossings Shopping Center. With Kroger and Publix among its stores, shoppers can find most of their general grocery necessities on those shelves. Nearby, Old Hickory Steakhouse offers premium fare, while the Catio Cat Lounge serves pastries and coffee while its patrons can pet the cats the lounge cares for.Near Nashville’s notable nightlife
It’s about a half hour’s drive to the heart of Nashville, meaning Music Valley residents are never far from the nightlife scene or anything the city has to offer. “Briley Parkway gets to downtown really easily from Music Valley Drive,” Mazzu says. “Its proximity and convenience is really important, along with the recreational ability and the growing greenway.” To the south, Briley Parkway intersects with Interstate 70, which spans the entirety of Tennessee and runs as far west as Arizona from its origin in North Carolina.
