Dine and grab a brew at the Harpeth Village
For shopping and dining options, residents only need to travel a short distance to the Publix-anchored Harpeth Village around Tennessee State Route 100. In addition to the chain brands, there are local establishments like new Cafe 100 bistro, which serves a variety of fare with an upscale touch. Its menu includes items like veal osso buco, chicken pot pie and a creative selection of pizzas that include a shrimp scampi pie. Pub fare and brews can be found at the nearby Brewhouse 100, which stays open until 3 a.m. Then, fans of tacos and nacho plates will like Las Palmas Mexican Restaurante, a regional chain with a location in Harpeth Village.
Exploring outdoor destination in Warner Parks
With the Harpeth River just west of Poplar Creek Estates, bikers in particular can conveniently get on the greenway that shares the river’s namesake. The 6.4-mile Harpeth River Greenway takes users through a mix of grassland, meadows and densely wooded pockets. The greenway goes by the Harpeth Valley Golf Center just north of the neighborhood. The nine-hole course is ideal for new players and features a driving range. The greenway also connects to the web of trails in the popular Warner Parks area to the east. Warner Parks — the umbrella name for Edwin and Percy Warner Park — features a number of distinct amenities across its more than 3,100 acres of forest and grassland. There, they can let their pups roam at the Edwin Warner Dog Park. Or they can travel north toward the Warner Park Nature Center to explore the Burch Reserve, where they might spot a watchful owl on a tree branch or migrating deer.Colonial Revivals and Traditionals in the hills
The houses here, many of which were built in the early 2000s and 1990s, can be found along hilly pockets where they either back into or are even surrounded by mature trees. The homeowner’s association levies an annual fee of $280. In terms of size, much of the homes here are two stories and can go from about 2,500 square feet to just over 3,000 square feet. Stylers feature many Colonial Revivals — with some bearing Dutch influences — and modern Traditionals. The common price point range goes from the lower $500,000s to just under $650,000, although there are a few lower and higher outliers. There are some Colonial Revivals that are well over 3,000 square feet with distinct amenities and features like a double-car garage and classical-style limited height porch that can go well over $3 million. When taking into account the common price points and sizes of the homes, Poplar Creek Estates has been a draw for many buyers, particularly growing families, Helton says. And if nothing else, there are some who like the landscape and surroundings. “It’s got a lot of hills. Despite what that might do for the foundation, it does add a bit of interest to the neighborhood,” Helton says.
James Lawson High’s new state-of-the-art facilities
Public schools serving the area include Harpeth Valley Elementary School, Bellevue Middle School and James Lawson High School. Harpeth Valley and Bellevue, respectively, received grades of B-plus and C-plus from ratings site Niche, while James Lawson High has yet to receive a rating. James Lawson opened just last year, replacing the now closed Hillwood High School. The new school, a 300,000-square-foot facility, features state-of-the art classrooms and other new spaces like outdoor courtyards, a theater and sports complex. There’s also a private option in the Ensworth School, which serves students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Ensworth’s high school, or the Frist campus, is located just a few miles east of the neighborhood. Ensworth, which received an A-plus from Niche, is ranked among the top 10 best private high schools in Tennessee.
Catching the summer Full Moon Pickin’ Parties
Residents can travel to the Warner Parks about 5 miles to the east to catch festivities. Among the most notable there is the Full Moon Pickin’ Parties, a summer-long concert series featuring bluegrass music. The series, which has been ongoing for well over two decades, runs every year from May to September. Hundreds typically set up their camp chairs on the park’s field to enjoy the performances from a small wooden stage. “I think it’s one of the most charming grass roots, good feeling events in Nashville and that’s monthly through the summer months,” Helton says.
Highway connections to downtown Nashville and hospitals
Old Harding Pike borders the eastern end of Poplar Creek Estates. The road connects to Old Hickory Boulevard, which itself runs to Interstate 40 and provides a commuter route up to Nashville about 15 miles northeast. Tennessee State Route 100 just south of the neighborhood provides most of the route to Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital West, located approximately 10 miles northeast. The Nashville International Airport is located just over 20 miles northeast of the neighborhood.
