Located in the heart of NOLA
Mid-City is a diverse, vibrant neighborhood located in the heart of New Orleans. Known for its longstanding architecture and ample amenities, this neighborhood is conveniently bordered by City Park, Navarre, Dixon, Gert Town, and Tulane-Gravier, offering immediate access to work and nightlife. “It’s a great location,” says Jean Michel, a realtor with Latter & Blum Realtors who has worked in the area for 35 years. “It’s only 10 minutes from the French Quarter, and it’s centrally located in the greater New Orleans area,” she says.

Historical New Orleans architecture
Michel says that many homes in the neighborhood are over 100 years old, which is indisputable with the historic architecture lining the one-way residential streets. Reflecting a mix of French, Spanish, and American influence, single and double Creole shotguns, French colonials, and craftsman homes are the most common styles, many of which are decorated with bold colors and feature raised porches with fences. New builds are also spotted throughout the area, but most homes are established or newly renovated. Sitting on narrow, long plots, the homes in this neighborhood sell between $175,000 for 900 square feet and two bedrooms, and more than $750,000 for a two-story, three-bedroom new build.
Colorful homes can be found throughout Mid-City.

Central to NOLA shopping and dining
Mid-City residents don’t have to go far to enjoy shopping and dining. Rouses Market and Winn-Dixie sit across from one another on Carrolton Ave, providing locals with options to stuff their grocery carts. There are several chain restaurants in the neighborhood, including Chik-Fil-A and Five Guys, but residents thoroughly enjoy dining at the small, unique options. Of the restaurants to choose from in the area, Blue Oak BBQ is a local favorite. Their smoked wings, tender ribs, and spicy chicken sandwiches draw hungry residents from every corner. Mid-City’s central location also puts it 3 miles south of West Lake Shore Shopping Center, and 3 miles north of Royal Street, New Orleans’ famous shopping and dining hub.

Mid-City’s charter school options
Although this neighborhood features private options, most kids start school at Esperanza Academy. The public charter Pre-K through 8th-grade school sees a high return rate each year, with most students attending until they graduate to high school. The elementary-middle school has a C-minus Niche rating and features a dual language immersion program for kids in Pre-K, where students can spend half their time learning in English and the other half in Spanish. Warren Easton High School, which has been around for 110 years and has a C-plus Niche rating, is often the next step for Mid-City students. The high school is mostly known for its marching band, but it also offers a robotics club and free homework assistance.

Jazz Fest, Mardi Gras and more
Mid-town residents have direct access to the annual New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, which takes place at the Fair Grounds Race Course on Gentilly Blvd. They also don’t have to go far to enjoy Mardi Gras since the main route rolls through Uptown along Saint Charles Avenue, and down to Canal Street in the Central Business District. During major events like Mardi Gras, driving is made difficult, but Mid-City’s walkability and public transit options ease the burden a bit.
Comiskey Playground and City Park
Comiskey Playground is a popular park in the neighborhood, featuring a basketball court, soccer field and playground. Mid-City’s proximity to the New Orleans City Park puts it within walking distance from the urban greenspace, which features a lake, hiking trails, a dog park, disc golf and museums.
