Some homes near downtown, others tucked away in the woods
Newland itself has relatively flat terrain but is surrounded by mountains. Modest ranch-style houses, cottages and manufactured homes comprise much of the housing near the downtown area. The town's hilly outskirts have homes tucked away in the woods, some with mountain views. The median single-family home price in Newland is $309,000, though prices can vary dramatically depending on the property’s size, condition and location. As Newland is in a valley intersected by the North Toe River, some properties are at risk of flooding. In September 2024, Hurricane Helene destroyed some homes and businesses downtown.
