An expansive community that brings suburbia to the countryside
Northeast Norman brings the suburbs to the countryside. Among the wide-open fields and horse farms is a mix of late 20th-century subdivisions that have accommodated Norman's gradually increasing population. Its prime location puts residents only minutes from the bustle of Downtown Norman and the University of Oklahoma. "One of my favorite things about Northeast Norman is that it feels like you're on the outskirts of town, but you're still right up in the middle of it," says Karrie Christian, owner and broker of Chalk Realty. Christian is a native of the area, having sold homes across the region for over five years.
A diverse mix of suburban dwellings and tucked-away homes
Northeast Norman's residential streets comprise established sidewalks and neat front yards, made possible by homeowners associations. Mature American Elm trees spread throughout modest front yards. Housing styles vary throughout Northeast Norman's subdivisions. Sutton Place is a small subdivision with a mix of new traditional, ranch-style and contemporary homes from the tail-end of the 1960s through the early 2000s. Homes in this subdivision cost between $200,000 and $300,000. In subdivisions like Hawthorne Place, the houses are a bit bigger, often over 2,000 square feet. These typically cost between $300,000 and $500,000. Ample standalone homes sit on several acres of land in the community's far reaches, costing nearly $750,000.

Locals enjoy Toby Keith's own, Hollywood Corners
Hollywood Corners is a local joint owned by the late country music star Toby Keith. The community gem serves up classic sandwiches, cold drinks and live music in a converted vintage gas station. "It's an awesome spot for live music outside," Christian says. "It's a bar, but it's family-oriented. When we go, my kids make friends with the other kids there, and they all run around, play, and listen to music. It's a good time." Along 24th Avenue are several spots to eat and shop. Locals enjoy dinner at Tucker's Onion Burgers, known for its flavorful double onion burger with cheese. Along 24th Avenue are retail favorites like Target, Kohl's, HomeGoods and Crest Fresh Market. Downtown Norman is another popular spot. Locals often hop in The Diner for a meal or stop by The Standard for a beer.

Students jumpstart their post-secondary educational careers through Norman Public Schools
"Northeast Norman has great schools that people flock to," Christian says. Kids growing up in the area attend Norman Public Schools, which earned an impressive A-minus on Niche. Many students kickstart their education at Eisenhower Elementary School, which earned an A-minus from Niche. And many students progress to Longfellow Middle School, which Niche gave a B-plus. Students go to Norman North High School to earn their diplomas. Niche gave the high school an overall A and ranked it among Oklahoma's top 20 best overall high schools. High schoolers can earn associate degrees early through the school's partnership with Tulsa Community College.

A joyful dog is running happily in the Norman Community Dog Park
Strolls through Sutton Wilderness Trail Park and local sports at Griffin Community
Locals enjoy a day outdoors along the open natural areas and green spaces sprawling just west of 12th Avenue. Sutton Wilderness Trail Park is a more undeveloped wildlife area where visitors stroll along the 1.3-mile wooded trail or cast a line in the park's central pond. Its woodland hiking trails showcase the area's rich wildlife, and locals often see turtles and butterflies among a few other local critters. Community members usually bring their four-legged friends for a walk, or they bring them just south to the Norman Community Dog Park. Further south is Griffin Community Park, a busier, more developed area with playgrounds, picnic tables and a walking course. Griffin Community Park is also home to the Rother Soccer Complex, where local soccer teams play a few recreational games.
Navigating Norman and reaching Oklahoma City
While locals primarily drive to get around, a few parts of Northeast Norman are served by EMBARK, Oklahoma City's primary transit system. Those commuting into Oklahoma City have a 20-mile north up Interstate 35. Roughly 18 miles northwest of the neighborhood is the Will Rogers World Airport. Located closer to home is the Norman Regional Hospital, sitting just across Robinson Street.
The Norman Music Festival and Norman art walks
Less than half a mile south of the community is historic downtown Norman. Residents of surrounding communities head into the city to enjoy art walks, which take place on the second Friday of each month. Summer fun comes in the form of the Annual Norman Music Festival, a free three-day event full of live musical performances and food vendors to enjoy.
