Homes with highly rated schools, spacious lots and nearby shopping
Right on the western cusp of Lebanon County, North Londonderry comprises the suburbs surrounding Palmyra. As one of the largest boroughs in the county, it's home to many big-box stores and local restaurants, though it doesn’t always appear so densely populated along North Londonderry’s winding backroads. “Most of it is rural, so you can live in a rural property but be close to major amenities,” says Stephanie Butler, a native of nearby Annville and a Realtor with Suburban Realty. “There’s a lot around Palmyra, and you’re getting close to Hershey over there. Plus, the schools are great.” The community is within the Palmyra Area School District, which Niche ranks as the best public school district in Lebanon County.
In North Londonderry, spacious ranch homes with acres of land are desirable for many buyers.

Rural midcentury suburbs and new-construction subdivisions
The suburbs north of Palmyra tend to be older and more spread out, with 1960s ranch-style homes on lots between a half-acre and a full acre. Split-level homes, cottages and a handful of new-construction houses on multiple acres sport tree-dotted lawns along the winding, rural roads. South of U.S. Highway 422, suburbs cluster more densely along neatly laid-out streets lined by sidewalks. Some mid-20th-century ranch-style homes occupy quarter-acre lots, alongside 2000s New Traditional houses, Colonial Revivals and farmhouse-inspired new builds. Some townhouses can be found on this side of town and are priced from $215,000 to $460,000. While older single-family homes list between $240,000 and $580,000, new-construction houses push prices into the $580,000 to $1.2 million range.
Big yards and small houses are preferred by many simple-living locals in North Londonderry.

Desirable and top-scoring Palmyra Area Schools
The Palmyra Area School District operates four elementary schools, with one located in the township: Lingle Avenue Elementary, which scores an A from Niche. Palmyra Area Middle also earns an A, while Palmyra Area Senior High receives a B-plus. The Palmyra High Cougars hold Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state championships in numerous sports, including a 2024 title in tennis for boys' doubles.
Grocery stores, restaurants and entertainment in Londonderry Square
Londonderry Square is one of the area’s primary shopping centers, anchored by Flagship Cinemas Palmyra and Grocery Outlet. Local shops such as Blue Mountain Thrift Store and Long Nursery are right next to big-box titans like Lowe’s Home Improvement and Walmart Supercenter, making this pit stop along U.S. Highway 422 a go-to for running errands. Numerous chain restaurants cluster along the highway, alongside a couple of beloved local standbys such as Rey Azteca Mexican Restaurant and Naples Pizza. There’s more dining in Palmyra, which is notably where Seltzer’s Smokehouse Meats produces its famous Lebanon Bologna. Folks can pick up sandwich meats at Seltzer’s Smokehouse Outlet Store or peruse an eclectic array of Lebanon Bologna-themed souvenirs.

Palmyra parks or hiking and hunting in the Appalachian Mountains
Next to the North Londonderry Township Municipal Center is a swath of forest reserved for suburban hiking trails that meander past a small pond. The township also operates numerous parks and community facilities, including the Palmyra Community Pool and Shearer Playground. On weekends, families gather at Ridge Road Sports Complex for youth soccer and lacrosse games. Hunting, fishing and enjoying the great outdoors are big parts of life in rural Lebanon County, especially with the Appalachian Trail and State Game Lands No. 211 just a few miles away along the crest of Second Mountain. The Palmyra Sportsmen’s Association is an indoor and outdoor shooting range where folks can practice their aim or try archery before taking on big or small game out in the wild.
In North Londonderry, children and their families enjoy the new and modern Shearer Playground.

Route 422 heads west to Hershey and Harrisburg
U.S. Highway 422 runs through North Londonderry, putting township residents roughly 10 miles from Downtown Lebanon. To the west, the highway passes Hersheypark before connecting to U.S. Highway 322 and continuing into Harrisburg. The Pennsylvania capital city is about 20 miles west and is home to Harrisburg International Airport. “A lot of people there work in Hersey, and if they don’t, they definitely visit all the attractions,” Butler says. “Harrisburg is also close enough that if a husband works at one place and a wife works somewhere else, it’s all still convenient.” Philadelphia is approximately 95 miles away in the opposite direction. North Londonderry is also about 12 miles south of Fort Indiantown Gap, a National Guard Training Center along Interstate 81 at the base of Blue Mountain.
