Studebaker is a primarily residential enclave of the Los Angeles County city of Norwalk. This is a neighborhood, though, that places its residents conveniently close to Interstates 5 and 605, plus multiple schools and parks.

The homes that fill Studebaker's streets were predominantly built in the mid-21st century. These homes may be close in age, but they come in a variety of styles, layouts and colors. Most are single-story, though, and many include attached garages, part of square footages that usually total between 1,000 and 2,000.

A lot of these homes have been maintained well through the years, and stand on lots that stretch between 5,000 and 7,500 square feet. A network of smooth sidewalks connects neighbors to each other and links all residents to some of the amenities in the area. Sale prices for homes in Studebaker usually hover from the $500,000s to the $800,000s. "It's an affordable area,” says local Realtor Alex Felix of VIP Real Estate Firm.

Students in Studebaker can reach multiple public schools by foot, part of the Little Lake City School District. The elementary school a young student here may attend depends on their address, but each of the options — Studebaker Elementary, Cresson Elementary, Lakeland Elementary, William Orr Elementary and Paddison Elementary — includes kindergarten through fifth grade, and each has a Niche rating of at least B-. From these elementary schools, students can progress to Lakeside Middle, where extracurricular courses include journalism and chorus.

Students matriculate into Santa Fe High School for Grades 9 to 12, part of the Whittier Union High School District. Santa Fe High’s graduation rate well surpasses the state average, at almost 98%. California’s average is 87%.

Residents in Studebaker can stroll to enjoy multiple parts around the neighborhood. This includes Lakeside Park, by Lakeside Middle. This roughly 5-acre area features a playground and multiple baseball diamonds, home to Little Lake Little League. There’s also a bit of grassy, open space that can be used for a picnic or a game of fetch with Fido. Sarah Mendez Park is another option, adjacent to William Orr Elementary. Besides a playground and athletic fields, this park houses the Orr Park Community Center, a 2,500-square-foot facility with a meeting room, enclosed picnic space and a kitchen. This park also hosts multiple events, like Bunny's Glowfest in the spring, with glow-in-the-dark Easter egg hunts, and a Haunted Teen Fest in the fall with a maze and games.

People in Studebaker have quick access to food and other essentials thanks to a couple of conveniently placed retail hubs. The area near the intersection of Norwalk Boulevard and Imperial Highway is one such hub. This is where you can grab some delectable teriyaki chicken and a cold Thai iced tea from Don’s Teriyaki Grill or hop across the road to knock out some shopping at Target. Another hub is the intersection of Studebaker Road and Firestone Boulevard, where you can pick up some bubble tea from Krak Boba and finish your grocery list at nearby Smart & Final or Costco.

Studebaker’s location along I-5 and I-605 means residents can reach Downtown Los Angeles quickly, by simply taking I-605 to I-5 and continuing north, a trip of just about 16 miles. All this is available at a relatively accessible price point, too, helping make this an attractive part of Norwalk.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
