Far North Omaha blends urban convenience and country charm
Far North Omaha lies about 8 miles northwest of downtown, where city corridors begin yielding to the Nebraska countryside. Cunningham Lake, a popular fishing and boating spot, is close by, and the neighborhood is home to one of Omaha’s oldest country clubs. While Far North Omaha offers plenty of room to spread out, it’s not exactly remote. CHI Health Immanuel and several public schools are within its boundaries, and Interstate 680 runs through to connect commuters to the rest of the city.
The rundown on the Far North Omaha housing market
Midcentury ranch-style and split-level homes, many with attached garages, are common here. Property sizes can be generous by city standards, with some measuring almost half an acre. According to Camilla Knapp, a real estate agent with Keller Williams, “the amount of mature landscape would be the number one reason” to move to this area. Home sale prices usually range from the lower $200,000s to the lower $400,000s, and residents tend to stick around a while. “A lot of the homes there have stayed in the same family, even if they did sell,” says Knapp, who has 16 years of local experience. If you’re buying in Nebraska for the first time, be forewarned that property taxes are higher than the national average. Also, while most Far North Omaha residents are homeowners, renters will find several apartment buildings in the neighborhood.
