Prairie Pointe is just a few steps from Zorinsky Lake
Life in Prairie Pointe centers around Zorinsky Lake. The dammed lake is one of many across Omaha that help control flooding, but most locals use it recreationally. Trails and parks surround the lake, with various subdivisions just steps away from those outdoor spaces. “We get to know our neighbors. Everyone’s sitting out on their driveways or walking the dogs or walking the strollers,” says Realtor Erin Oberhauser with Nebraska Realty. “I live close to the walking path, so I see people walking all the time.” Beyond the lake, this area of Omaha attracts homebuyers for its highly rated schools with strong academic programs, nearby shopping centers and convenient healthcare. Prairie Pointe also gets a 1 out of 10 Cap Index Crime Score, which is lower than the national average of 4.
Parks and trails surrounding Zorinsky Lake
Prairie Pointe borders Zorinsky Lake, where boat ramps and fishing piers line the shoreline. “It’s a no-wake lake, so you don’t ski or anything like that,” Oberhauser says. “Sailboats will come out in the summertime.” Zorinsky Lake Park – Southeast is the closest lakeside park to Prairie Pointe and includes soccer fields and a playground. “There’s a bunch of ball fields, and it's one of the best sounds when you hear the cracking of the bats because it means winter is over,” Oberhauser says. The inclusive playground is on the other side of the lake. The Zorinsky Lake Aquatic Center includes an outdoor pool with slides. In the summer, it hosts the local swim team. Trails surround the lake. Bauermeister Prairie sits on the northern side of the neighborhood, and the Bauermeister Prairie Trail goes alongside it, linking the neighborhood with the Zorinsky Lake Trail.
A mix of housing styles in Prairie Pointe's subdivisions
Prairie Pointe’s subdivisions offer a mix of New Traditionals, Colonial Revivals, split levels and ranch-style homes. Front yards feature small gardens and basketball hoops sit in driveways. Trees hang over the sidewalks, which allow residents to walk to nearby amenities, like Zorinsky Lake and its surrounding parks. Homes typically range from $200,000 to $400,000.
Prairie Pointe students attend A-rated public schools
Two elementary schools serve Prairie Pointe. Students on the eastern side attend Ackerman Elementary School, which is within walking distance of most homes and receives an A-minus rating from Niche. The other half of the neighborhood heads to A-rated Willowdale Elementary School. Russell STEM Middle School offers additional science and technology electives and field trips. Millard West High School has an AP Capstone program, which spans two years and requires seminar and research classes. Both the middle and high receive A ratings. For a private option, St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic School serves grades kindergarten through eighth grade.
Nearby shopping centers on the other side of the lake
Restaurants and shopping centers sit just outside the community. La Mesa Mexican Restaurant is an Omaha chain. Brewsky’s Food and Spirits serves craft beer and burgers. Charlie’s on the Lake offers a more upscale atmosphere and a menu with entrée items like steaks and seafood. Hy-Vee Grocery Store is just down the street, about 2 miles away. Walmart Supercenter and Target are about 4 miles north, on the other side of Zorinsky Lake in South Elkhorn .
Driving to shopping centers, hospitals and downtown
While residents can walk to amenities like schools and parks, accessing amenities beyond the neighborhood requires a car. Q Street and 168th Street are the main thoroughfares through the neighborhood. The grocery stores and CHI Health Lakeside are about 3 miles away along U.S. Route 275, also called Center Road. Commuters can take Interstate 80 to Downtown Omaha , about 15 miles away. Eppley Airfield is about 19 miles away, offering nonstop flights to other major U.S. cities.

We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
