“West Dodge offers attractive homes at attractive prices, with awesome accessibility,” says Matt Beers, Realtor with BHHS Ambassador Real Estate. “Many homes that come to market here have been updated or fully renovated, which makes them an incredible buy. And you’re literally minutes away from dozens of great restaurants, Children’s Hospital, Nebraska Furniture Mart and the West Papio Trail.”
West Dodge was built between 1945 and 1965 when many WWII vets were looking for well-located, new neighborhoods in which to raise their families. Mid-century modern and raised ranch-style homes make up much of the area. You’ll also find a few Cape Cods and Colonial Revivals as well. A recently renovated ranch-style home with three bedrooms and a detached two-car garage was recently offered for $220,000. A fully renovated Cape Cod from the 1920s with just over 1900 square feet can be found for around $255,000.
Westbrook Elementary offers pre-K through sixth grade. Thanks to a partnership with the Hawkins Family Westside Boys & Girls Club, they jointly opened a state-of-the-art facility at the school in August 2019 that provides after-school and summer programs. Niche rates Westside Middle with an overall grade of A-, and they have the distinction of being a National Junior Honor Society chapter. Westside High is not only ranked No. 7 of 264 for Best Public High Schools in Nebraska by Niche, but it also has athletic teams that consistently win awards, including 131 Metro Conference Titles, 91 NSAA State Championships and 548 individual state championships.
West Dodge neighborhood is also home to Nebraska Methodist College, a private nursing and healthcare college. Roberts Park is a 20-acre park just outside the eastern boundary of West Dodge that borders the Little Papillion Creek and includes a playground, tennis courts, walking paths, a skate park and plenty of open green space.
For artisan quality loose-leaf teas and eye-catching accessories check out The Tea Smith at Tower Plaza. They’ll answer any questions you have if you’re new to enjoying fresh brewed organic tea. Foodies offers fresh and handmade sandwiches, pizza and salads at their bright and cheerful eatery. Their menu includes gluten-free and vegetarian options as well.
For outdoor apparel, gear and work clothes you’ll find Duluth Trading Company on North 78th Street. Style & Encore carries gently used, fashion-forward women’s clothing, accessories and shoes.
Mediterranean Grocery offers authentic Middle Eastern and Mediterranean specialties including cheeses, spices, olive oils, sweets, meat and fresh produce and pita bread. Hy-Vee grocery store has a bakery, floral department, deli and pharmacy.
“It’s great to live so close to the Papio Trail. You’ll often see people kayaking in the Little Papillion Creek just having the time of their lives,” concludes Beers.
