A quintessential midcentury neighborhood
Anchored by a community park and a consolidated school, the neighborhood of Lake Como is building a contemporary reputation on a traditional foundation in Orlando. Located next to Greenwood Cemetery, the city's first burial ground, Lake Como's roots reach back to the early 20th century. Today, much of the original architecture remains. "The homes were built primarily in the 1940s, and the neighborhood was developed after World War II. It's got some character," says Valerie Kennedy, a Realtor with Colonialtown Realty. The midcentury neighborhood is planted about 3 miles from downtown, offering a quieter respite from Orlando's active center.

Homes from the 1940 to new constructions
The designs of the midcentury-modern era are predominant among the neighborhood's single-family housing. Buyers can find ranch-style homes, cozy frame houses, and properties ranging from Mission to contemporary. "You can find a two-bedroom, one-bath house for $350,000 to $375,000, and the range goes up to around $700,000 for a three-bedroom house," says Kennedy, who added that newly constructed homes could list for as much as $1 million. "It's always been a sought-after area. The homes have appreciated very well. It's not as high-end as some of the other nearby neighborhoods, but that particular pocket has always been preferred by a lot of people." Some of the most recent homes, such as contemporary styles built in 2023, are inside Conway Terrace and Handsonhurst subdivisions.

Shopping and savory flavors along Curry Ford
Curry Ford Road invites locals to commercial spaces just beyond Lake Como. Residents shop for home supplies at Winn-Dixie and Clemons Produce, a longstanding neighborhood grocer. "You're close to the Hourglass District, which is kind of an up-and-coming Bohemian area with lots of restaurants and craft breweries," Kennedy says. Among the district's popular stops are Legumanati, a vegan restaurant serving creative dishes, and The Commission Beer Chamber, a highly-rated tap room where drinks are enjoyed with a backdrop of old-school rap.

A circular lake and green space with history
The aesthetic centerpiece of the community is Lake Como Park. With homes encircling its lake, the urban green space provides a natural oasis.
