Fremont North
Midcentury homes for less than neighboring suburbs
The neighborhood sits on Oxnard's city grid, with sidewalks giving great walkability throughout the community. Homes sit on smaller lots with small front and backyards. With less yard space than neighboring suburbs, like Cabrillo, the ranch-style and midcentury homes can be found at slightly lower prices. Three-to-four-bedroom homes typically range from $650,000 to $875,000, in contrast to the suburban homes with larger yards in Cabrillo that can reach up to $1 million.Walk to Fremont Independent School
The neighborhood is a part of the Oxnard School District for kindergarten through eighth grade, which is rated an overall C-minus by Niche. Kids start at Sierra Linda Elementary, graded a C-minus. They continue at the C-minus-graded Fremont Academy of Environmental Science and Innovative Design, which sits in the heart of the neighborhood and is walkable from many homes. Students finish at B-rated Pacifica High, which is a part of the B-plus-rated Oxnard Union High School District. Pacifica's football program is consistently one of the best in the region, and it recently won the CIF Division II State Title in 2019.Groceries in the neighborhood and retail at the Collection
The Fremont Square Shopping Center, in the neighborhood's southwest corner, is where locals get necessities and a bite to eat. The Grocery Outlet offers convenient shopping trips. A few doors down, Pho Oxnard serves up savory Vietnamese noodle dishes. El 30 Maricos is a favorite for SoCal seafood and the Thirsty Ox is the go-to spot for cold drinks and live music on the weekend. The Collection at Riverpark is also 3 miles north. This expansive shopping mall has dozens of retailers like Lululemon and H&M, along with larger stores like Whole Foods and Target. The Collection's Annex Food Hall is where folks cap off a day of shopping, with a selection of food stalls and communal seating. Big-box shopping at Sam's Club and Costco is just 3 miles away.Play at neighborhood parks or Oxnard Beach
Fremont Tot Park and Eastwood Memorial Park, both walkable from a lot of homes, are the neighborhood's main spots to get outside without going to the beach. Fremont Tot Park sits next to Fremont Independent School, in the heart of the community, where kids can walk to climb on the playground and play in the grassy space. Eastwood Park, across North H Street, has more green space to run around and shady trees to relax under. There’s also a basketball and tennis court for neighborly competition. Oxnard Beach, 6 miles away, is where locals spend much of their free time. With spacious beachfront and park space, there's plenty of room for sunbathing and splashing in the waves.Downtown Oxnard Farmers Market
Fremont North doesn’t host many events, but downtown Oxnard always has something going on. Plaza Park is the heart of downtown Oxnard and hosts popular events, like the Downtown Oxnard Farmers Market. Folks flock to the Market every Thursday to collect the region's best produce. The First Thursday's Food Trucks event is another local favorite. Held on the first Thursday of every month, the event brings together the best of Ventura County's food truck scene for folks to try.Commute on Route 101
Commuters can drive just 3 miles up the road to merge onto Route 101 for their morning drive. Santa Barbara is a 37-mile drive up the coast, and downtown Los Angeles is 62 miles south. The drive to LA typically takes about an hour and 40 minutes, but heavy traffic through the San Fernando Valley can add a decent amount of time. The Oxnard Transit Center also offers a 2-hour train to downtown LA. Locals might also work down the road at Port Hueneme Naval Base or seaport, just 5 miles south. Point Mugu Naval Air Station is 9 miles down the coast. Residents often walk or drive around this part of town, but there are bus stops around the city.
