Sierra Linda
A range of 1960s to ‘80s ranch-style homes
The gridded streets of Sierra Linda are lined by colorful ranch-style homes with midcentury modern elements or Spanish-influenced flairs like orange tiled roofs and stucco walls. Most but not all houses have garages, though there’s ample space for street parking along the wide roads. Lawns are humble in size, taken up by neat sidewalks, but many take advantage of the space with shrubbery and a thoughtfully-placed tree. Homes expand in size towards the northern edge of the neighborhood, with multiple levels and midcentury modern flourishes that point to their construction between the 1960s and ‘80s. Plenty of people in Sierra Linda rent, but those looking to buy will find single-family homes at a median price of $700,000. A three-bedroom ranch-style house starts at $640,000, with a rare three-story Craftsman home selling for up to $835,000.Supermarkets, the Collection mall and local food nearby
Everyday shopping can be found less than 2 miles away at Lemon Grove Shopping Plaza, which has a Smart and Final Extra! supermarket where residents can grab groceries and bulk products. More big-box stores can be found to the north at Esplanade Shopping Center, from clothes at Nordstrom Rack to day-to-day necessities at the Walmart Supercenter. The UFC Gym there is open 24/7, meaning there’s never a bad time to get active. Across the highway, the Collection at RiverPark mall offers more shopping and a food court full of local vendors. “The Collection is the most popular place for shopping in Oxnard. It’s where everyone goes for everything,” Rodriguez says. For craft brews and bites, locals head to Wagon Wheel Brewing Co. Its hefty wagyu chuck burgers are a favorite among patrons, and the bar is a great spot to catch the game on TV.Oxnard, Rio, and Oxnard Union Schools serve families
Sierra Linda is zoned to three different schools in three different districts. Students can walk to school at Sierra Linda Elementary, which earns a C-minus from Niche and belongs to the Oxnard School District. Rio Vista Middle also serves the neighborhood and earns a C grade, part of the Rio School District. Grades 9-12 can attend Rio Mesa High, which holds a B rating and is in the Oxnard Union High School District. The school’s track and field teams have a history of success, including state championship titles.

Residents can walk to Sierra Linda Park for some fresh air. The park offers a playground, tennis courts and plenty of green space and tables beneath mature trees for picnicking or playing.Getting around, from Oxnard beaches to LA
There are plenty of options for getting around from Sierra Linda. Residents are right off US Highway 101 and approximately 2.5 miles from the Oxnard train station, where they can hop on the Metrolink and catch a ride along the Ventura County Line. The train goes to LA Union Station with a stop at Burbank Airport, with connections to Amtrak and South Coast Area Transit. There are also multiple bus stops along the edge of the neighborhood that take riders to numerous shopping centers, the Ventura County Naval Base and Oxnard College. Best of all, it’s only a 15-minute or 6-mile drive to Oxnard Shores, where locals can catch some waves or relax and watch the sunset over the water.
