If you want it or need it, Palmer Ranch in southern Sarasota County has it. The master-planned community comprising more than 90 subdivisions and conveniently located between Tamiami Trail and Interstate 75 offers an array of residential and recreational options and includes a public charter school, a fire station and four Adult Congregate Living Facilities. Village Walk is the largest of Palmer Ranch’s independent communities. Its centerpiece is an architecturally stunning Town Center surrounded by a lake and resort-style amenities. Village Walk even has its own neighborhood gas station. “Palmer Ranch is one of the more mature master-planned communities, and it’s the closest to Siesta Key Beach. That’s a big draw,” says John Gaudiano, a Sarasota-based Realtor. “It’s inland, so you don’t have to worry about storms as much, but you still have access to the beach.”

From condos to ranch homes to multimillion-dollar estates

Residents also have access to a wide variety of housing. “What you get in Palmer Ranch is every price point imaginable,” says Gaudiano. “You have condos starting at $200,000 all the way to executive homes in the $3 million to $4 million range. Whatever your budget is, you can find a community that fits your lifestyle.” Palmer Ranch’s traditional single-family housing is made up predominantly of ranch-style homes within self-contained subdivisions and gated communities. The Spanish Mediterranean architectural motif is common among these homes, which typically range in price between $400,000 and $800,000.

Highly rated K-8 school is conveniently located

Imagine School at Palmer Ranch, under the direction of Sarasota County Schools, is A-minus-rated by Niche. More than 600 students attend the public charter school, which serves students through eighth grade and includes virtual kindergarten instruction. Older students in the community can attend Riverview High, an A-rated school that features its own performing arts center.

Three community golf clubs feature five golf courses

In addition to the recreational amenities offered within separate communities, Palmer Ranch is home to three golf clubs and two parks, and it borders a state park. TPC Prestancia is the largest of the golf facilities, with two courses over almost 600 acres. The championship stadium course is an 18-hole, par-72 layout that plays to almost 7,000 yards. In addition, TPC Prestancia includes a social club and private dining. The Oaks Club also features a pair of 18-hole courses, and the Stonybrook Golf and Country Club offers a single 18-hole course. All three courses are part of separate communities, and residents of those communities receive preference for tee times and events, but the courses are generally available to residents throughout Palmer Ranch. Potter Park is a neighborhood complex on 37 acres that is home to the Evalyn Sadlier Jones YMCA. More passive recreation is available at Culverhouse Nature Park and the Stonybrook Nature Trail. A particularly attractive recreational feature in Palmer Ranch is The Legacy Trail, a paved bike path that follows the former CSX Railroad corridor between Sarasota and Venice. “You can literally ride your bike from your house to the beach in Venice or downtown Sarasota without ever getting off the trail,” says Gaudiano. Bordering Palmer Ranch to the south is Oscar Scherer State Park, which is home to Lake Osprey, the only freshwater swimming lake in Sarasota County. The lake also can be fished. South Creek, which runs through the entirety of the park, offers additional fishing, as well as opportunities for canoeing and kayaking.

Roessler's restaurant is a community staple

There are three full-service Publix available in the community, and Target anchors the Plaza at Palmer Ranch shopping center. The nearby Sarasota Square Mall is anchored by a JC Penney. One of the few independent eateries in Palmer Ranch is Roessler’s, a highly rated restaurant known for its continental cuisine and delicately manicured grounds. Several convenient eateries are located nearby along the Tamiami Trail corridor, including First Watch, Starbucks and The Italian Grill, a highly rated casual pizzeria and restaurant.

Tamiami Trail provides quick access to neighboring cities

Tamiami Trail, also known as U.S. Route 41, provides quick and easy access to points along the Gulf Coast. Only 10 miles directly south is Venice, and about 20 miles directly north is Bradenton, where travelers can access Interstate 275 for the trip to St. Petersburg and Tampa.
