East Eaton Wash is close to shopping, hiking and the interstate
East Eaton Wash is a quiet Pasadena neighborhood that offers easy access to shopping, hiking trails and the interstate. It takes its name from the Eaton Wash, a usually dry waterway that runs through the community and drains overflow from nearby Eaton Canyon Reservoir. “There’s a ton of hiking to the north off of Sierra Madre, and it’s right next to a lot of shopping and the freeway,” says Realtor Mario Askary, of Berkshire Hathaway, who has worked in the area for over 20 years. “It’s also not too far from Old Pasadena, so you can always find something to do.”
Homes range from historic bungalows to contemporary 2-story homes
The neighborhood was built up in stages over the last century, a fact visible in the variety of the local housing market. Early-20th-century bungalows, midcentury ranch-style homes and contemporary two-story houses can all be found here, many of them featuring excellent views of the nearby San Gabriel Mountains. Homes in the neighborhood typically sell for between $1 million and $1.5 million.
The neighborhood's CAP Index crime score is 4-out-of-10, which matches the national average. Fire risk in the community is relatively high, though not as high as in nearby communities closer to the mountains.
Close to Eaton Canyon hiking
“Hiking is a big thing in the area,” says Askary. “It’s so close to Eaton Canyon, which has some beautiful trails. People can get out in the wilderness whenever they want.” The canyon is known for its scenic mountain trails, waterfalls and stunning views of the San Gabriel Valley. Nearby 9-hole Eaton Canyon Golf Course offers a more manicured outdoor experience in the shadow of the mountains. Within East Eaton Wash itself, Vina Vieja Park features a playground, walking paths and a very popular dog park.
Major shopping centers on nearby Foothill Boulevard
The neighborhood is just a few blocks away from major retail corridors along Colorado Boulevard and Foothill Boulevard. Virtually all East Eaton Wash Residents are within a 1-mile drive of supermarkets like Vons, Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods, along with over a dozen big box stores. There’s also a sizeable selection of nearby restaurants, including highly rated Madre Maiz Taqueria. It’s just a 10-minute drive from the neighborhood to Old Pasadena, which is known for its historic architecture, quaint antique shops and vibrant nightlife.
Served by highly rated Pasadena High
The neighborhood is served by the Pasadena Unified School District. Norma Coombs Elementary has a B grade on Niche, while Sierra Madre Middle School has a B-plus. Pasadena High School has an A grade and offers dual enrollment classes through nearby Pasadena City College, which shared a campus with PHS until 1960.
Right next to Pasadena's annual Floatfest
Pasadena’s most well-known event is, of course, the Rose Parade, which runs through Old Town every January. However, the annual Floatfest Rose Parade showcase, held just before the Parade, also draws tens of thousands of visitors. Floatfest, which runs along the north side of the neighborhood, gives visitors the chance to walk by a 2-mile stretch of parked Rose Parade floats and observe them up close.
Easy access to the I-210
Interstate 210 passes just south of East Eaton Wash, making for easy commuting to Burbank, Glendale and Downtown LA. It’s a 17-mile drive to Downtown, and 19 miles to Burbank Airport, which offers regular flights to over 30 destinations. Bus routes overseen by Pasadena Transit run along Foothill Boulevard on the south side of the neighborhood.
