Penngrove is a farming community in wine country
Unlike many of its touristy neighbors in Sonoma wine country, the community of Penngrove has maintained much of its rural character. Agriculture is the community's leading industry, and many private farms occupy the region. “The farms give people elbow room and their own space,” says Tony Lander, a Realtor with Century 21 Epic Petaluma, licensed for over 18 years. “The downtown feels very old school and quaint. If you blink, you’ve missed it because it’s only like two blocks with a post office, grocery and a couple of bars and restaurants.” However, a few traditional subdivision developments have popped up as well. “It’s like an island between Cotati and Petaluma, and because it’s unincorporated, you don’t see as many parks and public amenities,” Lander says.
The junction of Old Redwood Highway and Main Street marks the beginning of downtown Penngrove.

Single-family homes and Millennium Mansions on multiple acres
Ranch-style homes were erected from the mid-1900s through the 1980s. New Traditionals were built starting in the early 2000s, some with farmhouse character and others with Craftsman details. Outside of subdivisions, properties can span from an acre to over 20 acres. “Many people have horses, sheep and goats, partly because they farm and partly to keep fields mowed down,” Lander says. Ranch-style homes sell for $950,000 to $2.6 million, depending on size. New Traditional home prices go from nearly $700,000 to $1.5 million. Millennium Mansions are common in eastern Penngrove, and some are Mediterranean-inspired. Prices range from around $1.8 million to $4.4 million.
