Federal Hill got its name after a protest on the Fourth of July in 1788, and the neighborhood has kept its independent streak ever since. The neighborhood, located just west of Downtown Providence, is known for its Italian restaurants, town square and active business scene. Narrow side streets, some still paved with cobblestones, branch off of Atwells Avenue, while DePasquale Square draws crowds in the warmer months.
