North Redding suburb next to Interstate 5
Midway is aptly named for its central location in the suburbs of north Redding. "It's not the closest to anything, but it's a nice community for people who want to be near the mall and the interstate," says Kori Cadorin, a broker associate with Young & Company Real Estate, who's been selling in Redding since 2006. The community Cadorin is referring to is the Country Oaks subdivision, which makes up most of the neighborhood. It sits at the intersection of two major highways, with Interstate 5 running down the west side and state Route 299 along the south. This gives residents a direct 2-mile drive west to Lake Boulevard Plaza for groceries and a 3-mile drive south to Mt. Shasta Mall — the city's largest shopping center. The neighborhood is also 3 miles from Lema Ranch, which has 4 miles of walking trails.
The shopping area around Lake Boulevard Plaza is vast.

Homes in Country Oaks
Most neighborhood homes are in Country Oaks. Its long winding streets and cul-de-sacs give a secluded feeling, despite being bordered by highways to the west and south. "When I've had people looking in neighboring communities, I'll show them Country Oaks because they can get the same house for less money because it's closer to the interstate," says Cadorin. Grassy front and backyards shaded by large oaks and pines give added privacy and line the streets with greenery. Mediterranean-inspired tile roofs and stucco exteriors are prominent throughout the community, but ranch-style and bi-level homes can also be found. Smaller, single-level ranch-style and Mediterranean-inspired homes range from $200,000 to $350,000. Large Mediterranean Revivals on spacious lots with enough room for a pool range can cost $400,000 to $500,000. Outside of Country Oaks, a few lanes of homes extend off Hawley Road on the neighborhood's east side. These ranch-style homes are spaced out on lots of up to half an acre. They range from $200,000 to over $400,000.
Most homes in the Country Oaks subdevision are ranch style.

Mitigating the spread of wildfires
Redding's dry climate and high temperatures make the summertime prime fire season. Most are small brush fires in the surrounding hills, but they can grow into large wildfires when not contained. The 2018 Carr Fire was the most recent large fire, burning many homes in west Redding and Shasta County. Midway is a few miles east of where the damage occurred. Still, the city encourages all residents to mitigate the growth of fires by removing combustible brush and materials from the perimeter of homes and communities to create a defensible space. It's also crucial to have a planned evacuation route in the event of a fire.
The Boulder Creek Bridge Trail is near I-5 and Route 299.
