Northpoint
Summer fun at WaterWorks Park, year-round Turtle Bay recreation
Locals can quickly reach recreation options within a mile of central Northpoint or drive just four miles south to some of Redding's favorite attractions along the Sacramento River. Just a mile east of the neighborhood's eastern edge, WaterWorks Park offers season passes to enjoy flumes, slides and wave pools from May through Labor Day. "One of the best places to go for fun is Turtle Bay Museum," says Laurie Cory, Owner of Artistic Endeavors Art Gallery in Northpoint. "Not only do you have the museum, but there are also miles of trails all around it and the amazing Sundial Bridge and Mosaic restaurant. So it's all in one package."All ages and 55-plus communities
To the west, in all-ages Mountain Shadows Mobile Home Estates, homes range from $45,000 for a 1970s build to $80,000 for a 1980s home with a wooded creek backdrop. To the east, mobile homes in the 55-plus age-qualified Redwoods community, built from the late 1980s through 2022, range from $125,000 to $150,000. Both communities offer residents a clubhouse with a pool, game room and library. Homes have attached carports and sit close to asphalt streetscapes. Small lawns with established trees are often edged with rock landscaping.NorthPoint Plaza in the neighborhood, Mt. Shasta Mall nearby
Locals can walk or bike to a retail area covering the southwest portion of Northpoint. Essentials include a CVS, several auto parts stores, fast food chains, a gas station and an anchor Raley's grocery store for home cooking. For dining out, Raliberto's Taco Shop, right next to Raley's, serves Mexican favorites in a tiny, low-key spot. Dessert is right next door at Baskin Robbins. "There's also Panda South next to Dollar Tree," adds Cory, "that's a nice place to take the family out for Chinese food." Cory's Artistic Endeavors Art Gallery in Northpoint is an artistic day program for developmentally disabled adults. Participants produce art for sale in an open-to-the-public creation store that Cory established in a former Starbucks. Brand-name stores fill Mt. Shasta Mall, 3.5 miles south, and several nationally known restaurants surround the mall.B-plus Central Valley High, Shasta College 4 miles east
From kindergarten through eighth grade, public school kids go to Rocky Point Charter, which earns a B-minus on Niche. Older students head to B-plus Central Valley High, recognized as a California Distinguished School in 2024. Shasta College, which offers over 100 associate degree and certificate programs and a bachelor’s degree in health information management, is a 4-mile, 10-minute drive east on 299.Quick highway access, some RABA bus stops
A few Redding Area Bus Authority bus stops serve the neighborhood, on Northpoint Drive and Lake Boulevard, though most residents drive. Highway 273 is Northpoint's eastern border, offering an easy connection to Highway 299 and Interstate 5. I-5 heads south to Mt. Shasta Mall and north to Shasta Lake. The Redding Regional Airport is only about a 12-mile, 20-minute drive south.Holiday lights at McConnell Arboretum
Every holiday season from November through January, the McConnell Arboretum and Botanical Gardens, just 3.5 miles south of eastern Northpoint, draws thousands to the Redding Garden of Lights.
