A recreational community with plenty of amenities

Covering the southwestern edge of Reno towards the city’s inner suburbs, Skyline Boulevard brings together wilderness adventures and urban conveniences. Several winding residential lanes branch off from this main boulevard showcasing large homes with verdant yards. The towering mountains of the Carson Range form a stunning backdrop for life in this community. “A lot of people choose to live here for the views, but also because it’s so convenient to the rest of the city,” says Realtor Sandra Gabrielli of RE/MAX Professionals.

Green spaces and golf courses in the Reno hills

Opportunities for outdoor recreation are abundant in this community. At the neighborhood’s western edge, dozens of dirt roads and trails take hikers, dirt bikers and cyclists into the Mount Rose wilderness and towards the Hunter Creek Falls. Adventurers will experience desert, mountainous and forested climates during these forays into Skyline Boulevard’s massive backyard. For a more laid-back outdoor experience, Mary Gojack Park and Horsemans Park – sitting side-by-side at the heart of the neighborhood – offer open areas for picnicking and playing. Additionally, Horsemans Park is where people can access the Steamboat Ditch Trail, which winds alongside a small stream for nearly a mile before ending on a nearby residential street. The Washoe County Golf Course, a public, 18-hole golf course with a pro shop and restaurant, sits in the northern part of the neighborhood.

Everything from ranch homes to luxury estates

Skyline Boulevard’s location among the foothills of the Carson Range not only contributes to its scenic appeal, but also to the unique nature of its housing market. “It’s suburban, but also urban because of its proximity. You’ve got downtown views, bigger lots, and more of a suburban feel,” says Realtor Jessica Hodges of Wedgewood Homes Realty. “It’s hillside living, because most of the lots are not flat, and you’re in the foothills of the sierras.” This neighborhood features an array of homes along roadways beautified with brush, bushes and evergreen trees. Ranch homes, minimal midcentury moderns, luxury estates and summery Mission Revival style homes are the most common styles here. “It’s definitely a trendy area, and a lot of people are moving from San Francisco because of its great proximity. There’s a lot of older homes that are being transformed into new, midcentury modern types,” Hodges says. Many of these homes date back to the 1950s, 60s and 70s, and have been upgraded over the years by their owners. Smaller homes sell for between $800,000 and $1 million, while larger homes and estates can sell for between $1.5 million and $2 million. For those looking for something with less upkeep, there are some condos and townhomes available in the area.

Shops and dining on Skyline Boulevard

While Skyline Boulevard may end at Reno’s desert periphery, this major road and McCarran Boulevard provide quick access to both shopping and dining outlets. Nearby grocery conveniences include the Raley’s at Caughlin Ranch, the Walmart at the Firecreek Crossing shopping mall along Virginia Street and the Sprouts Farmers Market in MidTown. Skyline Boulevard is primarily residential, but there are a handful of local restaurants. Skyline Kitchen & Vine, an upscale bar and restaurant, is a highly rated venue for date nights and friendly outings, while those with a taste for Japanese cuisine can grab a table at Sushimi’s, right across the street. Because of Skyline Boulevard’s size, some residents may live along the border with the MidTown shopping district, where boutique shops, trendy bars and popular restaurants line the sidewalks.

Outstanding Washoe County schools

Skyline Boulevard’s local schools all receive stellar ratings from Niche: Jessie Beck Elementary School and Darrell C. Swope Middle School feature A-minus scores, while Reno High School touts an A. Reno High School is ranked among the top 15 high schools statewide, with special praise for its STEM programs and athletics. This school ranks among the top 4 high schools in the state for athletes, as several sports programs have brought home state championships over the years.

Just a quick drive to Midtown and downtown

As its name may imply, Skyline Boulevard is a major transportation route, connecting residents to both McCarran Boulevard and downtown Reno. Hodges says, “It’s really close to town; you can get into downtown, MidTown and all of west Reno within 5-10 minutes or less.” This neighborhood is only 2 miles south of Midtown Reno’s artisan restaurants and boutique shops and 3 miles from the Reno Riverwalk. For those who need to catch a flight, the neighborhood is 3 miles west of the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. Most commuters drive, but major bus routes run along the neighborhood’s eastern edge.
