Convenience just east of Dulles International Airport

Just east of Dulles International Airport and home to two Metro stations, McNair is popular for its access throughout D.C. and Northern Virginia. Pooja Chawla, Realtor at Sampson Properties and former resident of McNair, explains that there has been massive growth in the area since she first moved there, and the neighborhood's continuing development took off after 2006. The metro lines and convenience are major contributing factors to McNair's growth. "It's still the suburbs, but you're right in the middle of everything.  Reston is right there, Loudoun County is a 20-minute drive, and you're 30 minutes by car or on the Metro to D.C. And you can go the opposite direction to Ashburn, Middleburg or Leesburg to a quiet winery or vineyard," Chawla says.

Townhouses and condos dominate the market

Renters and buyers both have options in McNair. The majority of homes in the area are townhouses and condos built in the last 20 years, many of which are in McNair Farms. McNair Farms is a planned community with apartments, condos, townhouses and single-family houses. Inventory can be limited, and townhouses with garages on the ground level are typically priced between the upper $500,000 and $700,000. Condos start in the upper $200,000s for one bedroom and range up to $600,000 for a luxury two-bedroom unit. "It's more affordable to stay in Herndon than places like Reston, Tyson or Arlington. You get a lot more square footage for your price compared to Arlington," Chawla says. "Plus, you're not paying association dues on top of HOA and condo association fees."

Two metro stations transport residents

McNair has two Metro stations nearby: Innovation Center Metro Station and Herndon Metro Station. Both stations are on the Silver Line, and many residents are within walking distance. "The best part about the Silver Line is that it also goes to Dulles Airport, Tysons Corner, D.C. and Arlington," Chawla says. Drivers can also take Route 267 into D.C. Some commuters, however, stay in McNair for work, with office parks such as Dulles Corner. "The area has a lot of government and private offices that require security clearance," Chawla says. Reston Hospital Center is also about 4 miles east of McNair.

Errands at Clocktower and more in Reston

Anchored by Giant Food, Clocktower has one-stop shopping and dining in McNair. "You can walk or drive there. There are great restaurants out there, and there's a lot of international cuisines now because it's a very diverse area. There's Thai food, Indian food, Mediterranean food," Chawla says. Popular spots include Taco Bamba, serving Mexican dishes like empanadas and tacos, and Chao Phra YA Thai, serving dishes like spring rolls and pad Thai. About 4 miles northeast of the neighborhood, Reston Town Center has upscale shopping at spots like Anthropologie and Athleta, as well as more local restaurants and entertainment. "Lots of events are happening in Reston Town Center all the time," Chawla says. These events include the Tephra ICA Arts Festival in May, Sunday Art in the Park, weekly summer concerts and more.

Concerts at Arrowbrook Center Park and the Udvar-Hazy Center

The community gathers on Saturdays in the summer for free concerts at Arrowbrook Centre Park. Families can bring their lawn chairs and blankets to kick back on warm nights at the park's pavilion and listen to music genres from jazz to rock. Just south of McNair, the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly has two massive hangars with dozens of airplanes on display and space and aviation exhibits educating visitors on the history of flying, including military aviation efforts through U.S. wars, commercial aircraft and space exploration. The museum also hosts story times for kids, talks from scientists, pilots and astronauts, and special events.

The neighborhood also has several more pocket parks and playgrounds scattered throughout. Just north of McNair, locals can perfect their swing on the fairways of Herndon Centennial Golf Course or hop on the Washington and Old Dominion Trail, a 45-mile regional trail system for bikers and hikers.

Some homes just feel right the moment you step inside—and this one is definitely one of them. One of the first things you’ll notice is the natural light. It floods the house, especially on the second floor where the open layout makes the space feel bright, airy, and incredibly inviting. It’s the kind of space that just lifts your mood every time you walk in.But it’s not just about what’s inside.
