Students in Belt Center can attend Elizabeth D. Redd Elementary School, Thomas C. Boushall Middle School and Richmond High School for the Arts, which are all part of the Richmond Public Schools district. Richmond High School for the Arts, formerly known as George Wythe High School, will receive a brand-new building with state-of-the-art facilities that are projected to open in 2026, and the high school’s curriculum will be curated for specialty programs for the arts. The high school currently offers students the opportunity to participate in a Bulldog Enrichment Academy program, which provides daily after-school tutoring and monthly themed educational workshops for students and their families.
Enjoy the outdoors at Carter Jones Park, located on Bainbridge Street. This spacious park has a baseball field, basketball and tennis courts, a small concrete skate park and a picnic area. While you’re there, check out Fonticello Food Forest, a community garden that provides free local produce and grocery distribution to the community at their farmstand every Wednesday. For more nearby nature, head to Crooked Branch Ravine Park, a nature preserve located on the banks of Reedy Creek. This little-known wooded gem has several interconnected trails where you can spot local flora and fauna.
When hunger strikes, head to Queen’s Jamaican on East Belt Boulevard for authentic dishes like curry chicken with rice and cabbage. If you’re craving seafood, head a few doors down to Crafty Crab in Southside Plaza, which serves seafood boils with options like snow crab, shrimp, mussels and clams. For a meal on the go, there are a handful of familiar fast-food restaurants, including KFC and McDonalds.
You can grab groceries at Super Fresh in Southside Plaza and fresh seafood such as blue crab and trout at Sea and Sea Fishmarket. Southside Plaza is also home to over a dozen retailers, including Roses and Shoe City, where you can shop for clothes, shoes, housewares, beauty supplies and more right in the neighborhood.
Several blocks away on East Belt Boulevard you’ll also find the Richmond VA Medical Center, formerly known as the Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center, which spans 1.2 million square feet and serves thousands of United States veterans annually.
To get to downtown Richmond, hop on the GRTC bus line or head north on Hull Street Road to arrive in the heart of the city in no time.
