Brauers blends historic rowhouses with revitalized green spaces

Brauers is a neighborhood in Richmond's East End with deep local roots and a strong sense of community. The area developed in the early 1900s, and many of its classic rowhouses from that era still stand alongside modest single-story homes. Recent investment has brought new recreation and a community center, while free public transit makes it easy to get around the city. The restaurants and amenities of Union Hill and Church Hill are close at hand, and Downtown Richmond is about 2 miles away. Buyers are drawn to the community's attractive home prices that fall below the city's median.

Vintage Victorians and bungalows with renovation upside

The neighborhood's housing scene features a mix of new and old, with Victorian-era builds sitting next to mid-century Cape Cods and brand-new rowhomes. Vintage character shows in details like hardwood floors and original fireplaces. Some homes on the market have been updated with modern kitchens and new appliances, while others are in need of major renovations. Covered front porches and fenced-in back yards are common, and most properties have rear detached garages. Homes typically start in the high $100,000s and reach the high $300,000s. “You can find great value here,” says Ray Rivera, Realtor with EXP Realty LLC. “These homes are a fraction of the cost of what it would be if you picked it up and moved it a mile or mile and a half in another direction. Brauers has a median home price of roughly $280,000, while nearby neighborhoods like Fairmount and Union Hill have respective medians of $390,000 and $400,000.
