A historic neighborhood offering easy access to community amenities
Fulton was one of the oldest residential neighborhoods in Richmond when much of it was demolished in the 1970s due to flooding and strategic displacement. As Fulton grows and welcomes new residents, it's beginning to experience a resurgence Offering a greater variety of housing prices, local hotspots and proximity to the James River and the Virginia Capital Trail, Fulton offers so much without feeling too secluded from the rest of Richmond. Longtime resident Melissa Ferrante moved to Fulton for this very reason. "My partner and I lived in the Museum District for 5 years and we were ready for more space," Ferrante says. "At first, I was nervous about feeling suburban. But I love that I can sit in the privacy of my backyard without feeling isolated or remote and then walk to great restaurants and parks. Fulton is a very special space."
Set atop a hill, the Powhatan Playground is a perfect place to watch a sun set behind the City.

Varied housing styles reflect the neighborhood's storied past
Cape Cods, wood-framed cottages, Craftsman-style homes and two-story shingle houses are primarily what buyers will find here. More established homes bring character to the neighborhood, while newly constructed houses reflect Fulton's expansion. Many residents enjoy fenced-in backyards that offer plenty of space to relax or entertain. Prices here are also another draw, ranging between $175,000 and $300,000. Homes in other areas of Richmond typically cost above $500,000, so buying in Fulton presents a more budget-friendly option.

Ample green spaces available for residents in Fulton
Gillies Creek Park offers excellent opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. The 40-acre park includes the city's only BMX racetrack, a disc golf course and horseshoe pits. From Powhatan Playground, residents can enjoy a picture-perfect skyline view of the city. This park has a new playground, recently updated athletic courts, picnic areas and a baseball diamond that local youth leagues use. There is also a small community garden with a beehive. Hikers and bikers will love being close to the Virginia Capital Trail, a popular spot that starts at Great Shiplock Park and travels nearly 52 miles down to Williamsburg. Rockett's Landing is located along the trail too. "There are some good restaurants here, fishing, kayaking and boat tours that I've rented for parties," Ferrante says.
A BMX track is also at Gillies Creek Park near the Fulton neighborhood.

Fulton is rich with restaurants, but residents travel for necessities
"Triple Crossing Brewpub is one of my favorites—I love to walk down Williamsburg Road and get a pizza and beer and watch the sunset from their patio," Ferrante says. Blue Atlas is another local go-to, which Ferrante says has the best lattes in town. Located inside a former schoolhouse, there's a cafe, restaurant, market and ample outdoor seating with views of the Richmond skyline. Ms. Girlee's Kitchen is a longstanding favorite for soul food and neighborhood fish fries. Other community gatherings include FultonFest. This popular outdoor event that began in 2019 to bring Fulton residents together and commemorate the history of the neighborhood.
Fulton is somewhat scarce in terms of local grocery stores, but there are convenience stores located throughout the community. When residents want to go grocery shopping, they'll need to drive west into the city or east to Laburnum Avenue. This large retail area has a Publix, Kroger and the White Oak Village retail area. Here, there smaller chain stores, big box stores like Ulta and Target and a mix of chain and locally owned restaurants.
Triple Crossing has a great outdoor patio where you can enjoy a beautiful afternoon in Fulton.

A five-minute drive from most areas in Richmond
"One of the biggest benefits of living in Fulton is how close it is to different areas," Ferrante says. "If you drive five minutes in one direction, you find yourself at the river in Rockett’s Landing or in downtown Shockoe Bottom, and five minutes in the other direction and you see beautiful corn fields and roadside fruit stands. It’s such a unique neighborhood.” Residents are about 3 miles from I-64, I-95 and the 195 Expressway, making it easy to get around the city. Other amenities are also accessible—VCU Medical Center is 3 miles away and Richmond International Airport is 5 miles away. Fulton is underserved in terms of public transportation and city maintenance, but different community organizations like the Neighborhood Resource Center and the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church work with local government officials to improve the neighborhood’s amenities and foster the culture of Fulton.
Interstate I-64 connects Fulton with other communities.
Bus stops are all along Williamsburg Road in the Fulton neighborhood.
