Small homes and community spirit 4 miles from downtown Richmond
Situated a few blocks south of the James River and 4 miles from downtown Richmond, Virginia, it's hard to beat the location of Northrop, according to locals. “You’ve got restaurants, shopping centers and parks in every direction, as well as the river,” says Ronnie Burnett, Realtor at ERA Woody Hogg and Associates. Neighbors get their hands dirty growing fresh vegetables in the community garden or attend events at a longtime community church. Families also appreciate having a high school and park located within the neighborhood. With smaller, reasonably-priced homes, it may be an accessible area to first-time homebuyers -- among the reasons why this neighborhood is in high demand. "People can afford it," Burnett says. "They don't really build small houses like this anymore in Richmond," Burnett says.
Cade Cods and Craftsman bungalows in Northrop
Most homes in Northrop are apartments, with some townhouses and single-family homes. Most single-family homes are located along Northrop and Crutchfield Streets, which contain properties built in the '20s in various architectural styles. Classic Cape Cods with low, rectangular profiles and gabled dormers sit near to compact ranch-style homes with vinyl siding. There are also flat-faced Colonial Revivals and Craftsman bungalows with porches held up by exposed beams. Crutchfield Street is flanked by sidewalks and mature trees. Homes range from $250,000 to about $600,000. High demand and low inventory may pose a challenge for those looking for properties here.
