Reedy Creek
Close to the James River and Forest Hill Park
One of the biggest perks of living in Reedy Creek is residents' proximity to Forest Hill Park. This expansive, longstanding green space offers trails that lead to the Buttermilk North Bank Trail and Belle Isle. The park also features pickleball courts, a playground and a large lawn that's popular for sledding in the wintertime. "The park is one of the best aspects of living here," says Moore. "I love that I can walk down to the River or Belle Isle, visit the South of the James Farmers Market on the weekends or open up my window and hear the live music that gets played during the summer." The neighborhood is also a favorite for those who enjoy biking, as there are bike lanes along major roads like Forest Hill Avenue and bike-accessible trails in the park. During the summer, residents can head down to Belle Isle or make the short drive to Pony Pasture to spend an afternoon sunbathing, floating or kayaking on the river. Reedy Creek, the namesake waterway that's part of the James River Park System, runs partly through this neighborhood. Reedy Creek has a popular hiking trail that leads down to the James River channel.Colonial Revivals offers 20th-century charm in Reedy Creek
While this community doesn't boast many historic homes like adjacent Forest Hill, the homes here were primarily built in the early 20th century and offer that established charm. There are primarily Colonial Revivals here, but buyers will also find Four Squares, Cape Cods and Craftsman bungalows. Homes are typically set on tidy lots lined with mature trees and spacious backyards. The housing market here is competitive, as many residents tend to stay in this desirable area. Prices for Craftsmans and Cape Cods tend to cost between $225,000 and $300,000, while larger Four Squares and Colonial Revivals cost between $400,000 and $600,000.Local shops and restaurants are within walking distance of Forest Avenue
Along the major thoroughfare of Forest Hill Avenue, residents will find longstanding dining and retail spots, some of which are easily walkable. Crossroads is a cafe that serves breakfast sandwiches, coffee and ice cream. Nearby, LGBTQ-friendly Thirsty's is a New Orleans-themed restaurant that turns into a packed bar at night. West of the neighborhood, residents can find more beloved dining spots like Little Nickel and The Veil Brewing. "This area is really convenient because you're just a 10-minute drive from restaurants, a Walmart, a Target and many local shops," says Moore. "You can also take Forest Hill to Chesterfield Towne Center or Stony Point."Students are served by the Richmond Public School System
Students get their education started at Swansboro Elementary School, which earned an overall C on Niche. Students then filter into Lucille M. Brown Middle School, which earned an overall C-minus, before attending Huguenot High School, which earned an overall C. Students can also apply to attend Open High School, which earned an overall A. The school provides a college preparatory program and serves about 200 pupils, keeping student-teacher ratios small.Easily connected to local highways
In addition to its walkable areas and bike lanes, residents can utilize the Greater Richmond Transit Center buses that are located on major roads. Residents are also just a short drive from several bridges and highways connecting to I-195, I-95 and I-64. Downtown Richmond is just about 5 miles away; almost any point in the city is accessible from the community. The nearest medical center, Chippenham Hospital, is less than 4 miles away. For those traveling out of the area, the Richmond International Airport is only about 20 minutes from the community. Offering easy access to the surrounding communities, picturesque homes and proximity to the James River and its parks, Reedy Creek offers charm and convenience.
