The Diamond is a walkable neighborhood centered around a stadium

Located in the heart of Richmond, this neighborhood gets its name from The Diamond baseball stadium, which is perched in the center of the area and is home to the Flying Squirrels minor league baseball team. The area is currently undergoing major revitalization as part of Richmond’s $2.4 billion Diamond District project, which, when complete, will boast a brand-new baseball stadium, new multifamily homes, townhomes and an 11-acre public park. “The Diamond is a really walkable area,” says Anne Soffee, Realtor with Small & Associates. “You’ve got restaurants right there and new shops popping up. Then if you walk own Boulevard, you’ve got everything — the movies, Starbucks, ice cream, bowling and tons of shopping. It’s super convenient.”

New apartments and condominium units

Some of these newly constructed apartments, condominiums and townhouses have already been built and are occupied by their first residents. The Westbrook at Brewer’s Row offers upscale apartments with one to three bedrooms and amenities like a resort-style pool and sky lounge. For those looking to buy, The Outpost at Brewers Row is selling two-story luxury condos constructed in 2023, which range in price from $480,000 to $630,000, depending on size.

Served by Richmond Public Schools

Students in the community may attend Linwood Holton Elementary School, which earns a B-plus on Niche, followed by the C-rated Henderson Middle School. John Marshall High scores a B-minus. Its boys’ basketball team went undefeated in the 2022-2023 season, leading them to the state championship.

Baseball and fireworks at The Diamond, with the SOAR365 park nearby

The Flying Squirrels play from April through September at The Diamond, with fireworks shows after a number of games. The stadium also hosts a local vendor market, PopUp Market, every Saturday, along with other events. For some fun outdoors, SOAR365 is a modern neighborhood park located on Saunders Avenue that features play areas, swings and climbing structures designed for kids of all ages and abilities. Picnics can be enjoyed under the shade of an oak tree, and the pavilion can be reserved for larger gatherings.

Local restaurants and breweries, plus proximity to Carytown

With an airy ambiance and Alpine-inspired cuisine like fondue and duck breast, Brenner Pass on Rockbridge Street fills up quickly, so it’s best to make a reservation ahead of time. Gelati Celesti on Arthur Ashe Boulevard serves up creamy scoops of ice cream. Hardywood Park Brewery is another popular spot where locals gather for craft beers, small concerts and local markets. Diversity Thrift, a colorful thrift store and community hub on Sherwood Avenue, sells a large collection of clothing, furniture and household items. A quick 2-mile drive down Arthur Ashe Boulevard, Carytown is a vibrant shopping district brimming with local boutiques and restaurants.

Easy access to interstates

With proximity to interstates 195 and 64, residents of The Diamond can get across town quickly and directly.

Overall, it's a good area for recent grads or young adults. It's close to several breweries and many restaurants, close to the Fan without being right smack in the city itself. It's a decent area, but could still use some cleaning-up.
