Mira Loma
Del Paso Regional Park
The American River Parkway has a paved trail along with access points for kayaking and more. There’s no shortage of fun at the massive Del Paso Regional Park. This 600-acre park has lighted sports fields, equestrian trails and play areas for children. The Haggin Oaks Golf Complex is a part of Del Paso Regional Park and has a pair of 18-hole courses to go with a 100-stall driving range. Smaller parks like Gibbons Community Park and Carmichael Park provide exercise courses and volleyball courts. For indoor fun, Del Norte Club is a fitness center that offers exercise classes and training in a large fitness area. Swimming is always in season with indoor and outdoor pools, and there are basketball and tennis courts available.Mira Loma High shines
Mira Loma youngsters head to the San Juan Unified School District, beginning at Whitney Avenue Elementary, which holds a B-minus overall rating on Niche. The next stop is Winston Churchill Middle School, which holds an A-minus Niche rating and was noted as one of the top public middle schools in the Sacramento area. Teens attend Mira Loma High School, which has an A-plus Niche rating. Mira Loma was named the second-best school in the Sacramento area and the fourth-most diverse student population in all of California. The school has a prestigious International Baccalaureate program and offers classes in Japanese and Mandarin.Ranch homes on large lots
The neighborhood is made up of older residential subdivisions, with many homes being built in the 1950s and 60s. The prevailing style is ranch homes with two to four bedrooms, low-flung rooftops and attached garages, and mid-century modern style homes with open floor plans and clerestory windows. Typically homes cost between $400,000 and $700,000. With quiet streets and well-kept sidewalks, it’s a great place for walking around on a sunny afternoon. “Because of the older properties, the lots are larger, so you feel like you have a lot of space compared to some other neighborhoods around Sacramento,” says Westberg. The larger yards are shaded by tall trees, and some feature private swimming pools.Dining on Watt Ave.
Locals can visit the commercial plaza on Watt Avenue with shops and restaurants including Shams Market, an Afgan grocery store and bakery, and App-Khao, a local Thai restaurant. Further south on Watt, the Grocery Outlet serves as an easy spot for residents to stock up on groceries for the week ahead. Village Pizzeria & Grill is a favorite spot for take-out pizza, wings and sandwiches. The Arden-Arcade Famer’s Market at Country Club Plaza is a popular spot on Saturday mornings, and nearby shopping centers have a plethora of big box stores for easy shopping.Easy access to downtown
The neighborhood is situated near the Capital City Freeway and Interstate 80, which makes it easy to commute to nearby Northern California areas. Residents can be in downtown Sacramento in under 15 minutes and take day trips to the Bay Area and Lake Tahoe. Sacramento Regional Transit buses have frequent stops along Auburn Boulevard and Watt Avenue.
