North Laguna
Mediterranean homes on large lots
The neighborhood features a mix of ranch-style homes, tri-level and modern Mediterranean-inspired homes. Houses are clustered into secluded subdivisions with quiet, residential roads. Prices range between $400,000 and $580,000, depending on the size and age of the property. “It’s more affordable than the northern side of Elk Grove, so it’s good for some first-time owners,” says Lee. Homes sit on spacious lots and have sizeable yards. Private parking is not an issue as houses offer driveways and attached multicar garages. Paved sidewalks make it easy to walk to a neighbor’s home, but residents need a car to get around. Flooding is possible near North Laguna Creek, but most homes are not in danger.Monterey Trail High shines
North Laguna children attend the Elk Grove Unified School District. They either start at Barbara Comstock Morse Elementary, which holds a B-minus ranking on Niche or the B-rated Irene B. West Elementary. Edward Harris Jr. Middle School has a B-plus Niche rating. Teens attend Monterey Trail High, which has an A-minus grade on Niche. The high school was established in 2004 and is known for its Design and Technology academies, where students can focus on Computer Science, Engineering and Environmental Architecture. North Laguna Creek Park is a favorite spot for locals to shoot hoops or play tennis. The park also has a 120-acre wildlife area with walking trails and a lake for fishing. Kids love taking the trip to Shasta Community Park, which features a Treasure Island-themed playground and a skate park. Pet owners can let their dogs get some exercise at the off-leash dog park at Jacinto Creek Park. “With it being a younger population, the people here are really active,” says Lee. Residents can work out any time of day at the 24-Hour Fitness off Bruceville Road. Movie lovers check out the latest Hollywood blockbusters at the Regal Laguna Village theaters.Shopping at Laguna Gateway Mall
Locals start the day at Café La Vies for specialty lattes and homemade pastries. The Laguna Gateway Shopping Mall off Highway 99 has plenty of shopping and dining options. Residents can grab groceries at Sprouts or equipment for a home improvement project at Home Depot. Sizzling Fresh Mongolian BBQ makes for a fun night out with friends and family. The shopping center is also home to the Elk Grove Farmers Market each Saturday morning. For an elevated take on traditional Mexican favorites, locals make their way to Rosa Madera. Hinoka Sushi has specialty rolls, sashimi and bento.Hop on Highway 99
The neighborhood is bordered to the east by Highway 99, which provides quick access to Elk Grove to the south and Sacramento to the north. The area features Sacramento Regional Transit bus routes, which provide local routes and rides to the state capital.
