A suburban community within walking distance of its popular namesake park
Named after the body of water that inhabits it, Lake George offers residents walking access to one of St. Cloud's most frequented parks. This park, a community hub for the city, offers year-round recreational opportunities atop one of the area’s few accessible lakes and hosts the much-anticipated Summertime by George! concert series. Developed as the city expanded westward, homes from the early to mid-1900s dominate its tree-lined streets. However, the neighborhood is also home to St. Cloud City Hall and the Islamic Center of St. Cloud on 7th Saint Street. Despite its mostly residential landscape, short trips lead to the shopping and dining opportunities of St. Cloud's downtown district directly northeast.
The Lake George neighborhood is a great place for a peaceful walk by the water.

Lake George Park's year-round recreational opportunities
Lake George Park is a focal point for the community and the greater St. Cloud area. “The lake is a city-wide community setting and has such a wholesome feeling,” says Mary Ellen Richter, a local broker with Kerber Castle Realty Group. “A lot of people will go out on their lunch breaks and walk on the trails around the lake.” During warmer months, little ones run loose on the playground and splash pad, while those looking to get on the water rent paddle boats and canoes from the adjoining Lake George Boat House. When cold Minnesota winters hit, the lake freezes over, and folks from the area take to the ice for a day of skating. Great River Regional Library sits directly north on the other side of 1st Saint Street, offering short trips to pick up a new read or reserve a private study room.
The Lake George neighborhood is delightfully situated next to the eponymous body of water.
Walking around Lake George on a sunny afternoon is a pleasant way to enjoy the weather.

A variety of styles from the early to mid-1900s
Grassy medians home to oak and evergreen trees run parallel to the community’s residential streets. These provide pockets of shade along narrow sidewalks that connect one rectangular block from the next. Narrow walkways leading to front doors support parking along the street, but most store their vehicles in driveways or detached garages on the backside of homes. Early- to mid-20th-century homes comprise most of the community and feature a variety of architectural styles, from American Foursquare and Vernaculars to ranch and Cape Cod styles. Home prices range from $85,000 to $250,000, depending on size and condition.“The community is centrally located and affordable,” says Richter. “It’s close to St. Cloud State University but so close that it’s a fully rental community.”
Lake George is home to many of the Craftsman style houses popular in the early 20th century.

Grabbing a bite to eat along West Saint Germain Street
West Saint Germain Street, a corridor for downtown St. Cloud’s bars and restaurants, is a half-mile northeast. Visits to the area include stops at The White Horse Restaurant & Bar, a laid-back spot to enjoy a burger and drinks. Mexican Village Downtown’s colorful dining room, adorned with hanging parrots and multi-colored string lights, sits three blocks from The White Horse. Known for its margaritas and authentic Mexican fare, many head to the eatery for birthday celebrations. Local shops like Rush Boutique, Books Revisited and Spice of Life Tea Shop also share the street. However, residents can pick up groceries in the neighborhood at Coburn’s Grocery Store on Cooper Avenue South and Somalian goods from Mogadishu Grocery on 7th Saint Street. Meanwhile, Crossroads Center’s indoor retailers sit 3 miles west on West Division Street.

Summer concerts on the lake
Summertime by George! takes place at the community’s namesake park. Every Wednesday evening, from mid-June through mid-August, the lawn of Eastman Park Stage fills with lawn chairs and the sounds of local musicians. On-site food trucks provide food and drinks to carry attendees through the event, which ends not long after the sun sets. Similarly, the St. Cloud Area Farmers Market offers live music to pair with its array of vendors offering artisanal goods and fresh produce. The market is held less than a mile northeast, at Lady Slipper Lot, every Saturday morning from May through October.
Staying in the know with Tech Tiger Times
When summer ends, young students return to Talahi Community School for preschool through third grade and Lincoln Elementary School for fourth and fifth grade. Both schools get a C rating from Niche. Older students head to South Junior High School, which holds a C-plus rating, before heading to Tech High School. The Tigers maintain a B rating and keep guardians up to date with Tech Tiger Times, a newsletter published multiple times a month.
Getting around on the Metro Bus
St. Cloud State University’s campus sits less than a mile east, granting short commutes for students living in the community. Similarly, CentraCare-St. Cloud Hospital is a 2-mile drive northeast along 9th Avenue North. Those making daily commutes or exploring downtown Minneapolis 68 miles southeast can reach the city via Interstate 94, 6 miles south of the neighborhood. Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport is along the same route, 12 miles farther. Residents can also take advantage of several Metro Bus stops throughout the neighborhood or hop on the Amtrak at St. Cloud Station, 2 miles northeast.
