A pocket community with classic homes and walkable schools
Tucked among the neighborhoods of St. Matthews, a highly desirable area of eastern Louisville, Cherrywood Village comprises five city blocks and 144 homes, which are part of the highly desirable city of St. Matthews. "You do pay more to live in a community like Cherrywood," says Nanette Tafel, a broker associate with Kentucky Select Properties, who's sold real estate in Louisville for over 30 years. Tafel partners with her son, who loves Cherrywood Village because their family lived there for six years when he was little. "It's so bikeable and walkable," she says. "Every city has its pockets of homes that give you a neighborhood feel, and Cherrywood is a prime example. Plus, it's within 15 minutes of almost anywhere in town." This includes the Mall St. Mathews, Kentucky’s fifth-largest mall, and the many shopping centers along Shelbyville Road.

From starter to dream homes in Cherrywood Village
Most neighborhood homes are classic Cape Cods and ranch-style homes that range in price from $340,000 to $550,000. They often feature finished basements and large back decks that add to the living space. Larger, higher-end homes with lots as big as a half-acre can be found on Ormond and Napanee roads. They run from $725,000 to $1.2 million. While most properties in Cherrywood Village are not as grand, Capes that go on the market still feature beautiful hardwood floors, built-ins, fireplaces, and detached and oversized two-car garages. “The neighborhood is great for young families seeking a starter home,” Tafel says. “But I’ve also considered moving back to Cherrywood Village myself when I retire. It’s a nice place for retirees who want to downsize. As you age, finding a centrally located community is important, too, so you can get to everyone, and they can get to you.”
