Southern Hayden Heights has green space and close jobs
Southern Hayden Heights is part of St. Paul’s Greater East Side district, an area originally developed to house factory workers. Proximity to employers is still a draw, as is the relative affordability of homes. Nearby parks and lakes provide green space and a buffer from city life. Suburban malls and trendy dining districts are both a few miles away.

Relatively affordable starter homes in a variety of styles
Homes rest along a grid of streets, many with oak-shaded sidewalks. Though on-street parking is available, some residents park in the alleys that run behind most homes. Buyers may find early 1900s farmhouses and bungalows, as well as mid-to-late 1900s split-levels and ranch-style homes. A few residences were built after 2000 — these tend to be Colonial Revival-inspired designs with vinyl siding. Some houses have been converted into duplexes, which allows owners to subsidize their mortgage costs with rental income. “The community has a pretty even mix of renters and buyers,” says Matthew Kennedy, a Realtor with LPT Realty who has lived in the St. Paul area since 2013. “It has a lot of smaller starter homes and a good price point.” Listings tend to range from about $150,000 to $350,000.
