Golden Valley blends suburban life with easy freeway access
Golden Valley is a suburban community in downtown San Bernardino. The city has long been a locus of citriculture and manufacturing and helped to build the region now known as the Inland Empire. Quaint suburban homes sit alongside artful murals, just a short distance from updated schools, local restaurants and major freeways.
Some of the city’s best home prices near neighborhood schools
Here homebuyers can find a community of traditional suburban tracts, outlined by wide streets and sidewalks with colorful signage and artful murals in community gardens. Progressive Properties Realtor Jeff Teel says, “The homes here have some of the best home values in the city, and they’re within walking distance to schools.” Most of Golden Valley’s residential landscape is made up of a variety of single-family houses. Simple ranch-style homes feature expansive interior floor plans and ample yard space, allowing homeowners to take advantage of every inch of living space. Other single-story house styles are common in Golden Valley, like the regionally popular mid-century modern style. Asymmetrical facades and interior floor plans designed to create a flow movement to community spaces and the outdoors are the main aspects of the design. Other homes mix and match classic home styles with more contemporary design touches. Home prices range from $285,000 to $650,000, with an average price of $412,000.
Schools with solid academics and athletic programs
Public school students are served by the San Bernardino City Unified School District, attending primary schools like Arrowhead Elementary from kindergarten to fifth grade. Students move on to intermediate and secondary institutions like Golden Valley Middle and San Bernardino High School. The latter high school has an overall B-plus Niche rating and has excellent athletic programs that have graduated players for NFL teams such as the Minnesota Vikings and MLB teams like the Chicago Cubs. Howard M. Rowe Library has a large collection of book, CD and DVD titles to choose from as well as computers and reference rooms for public use.
Community gardens and parks offer space to play and connect
Local gardens and nearby parks provide opportunities for getting active and connecting with the community. Community gardens allow residents to grow vegetables and flora in an expansive green space. Horine Park is a five-acre park home to a large hilly green area perfect for throwing a frisbee or ball with friends. Wildwood Park offers a vast green space with playgrounds and places to view the Arrowhead, a massive rock formation in the mountainside. The San Bernardino Mountains and National Forest are to the north, home to miles of hiking, biking and horseback riding trails, and to alpine destinations like Big Bear Lake and Lake Arrowhead.
Fresh produce and hearty meals close to home
Golden Valley residents are just a short distance from grocery shopping and local restaurants. Regional grocery stores like Stater Bros. Markets will keep you stocked with fresh produce, bulk foodstuffs and other essential home goods. Manna Donuts has racks of specialty donuts, croissants and an assortment of beverages. DJ Coffee Shop is a lively and popular neighborhood diner known for its hearty portions of American fare, including an all-day breakfast menu. Ye Olde Lamplighter is an established local watering hole that has been dishing out juicy steaks and drinks and hosting live karaoke since the 1960s.

We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
