Anza Vista
Midcentury properties and Edwardian-style buildings
Housing in Anza Vista runs along the upper hills of the city and was primarily developed after World War II. Midcentury duplexes and multi-family houses are the most common housing styles. Other styles include a few older Edwardians and Victorians, mainly located on the neighborhood’s eastern side. These homes, some of which are single-family and others that have been converted into condo units, often feature large bay windows. Condos prices typically range from $1.1 million to $2.2 million. "The condo market is much slower than single-family homes," Mead says. Single-family residences usually range from $2.3 million to $3.2 million, with the higher end typically being detached homes on more spacious lots.Community service at Raoul Wallenberg High
Students may attend the A-minus-rated New Traditions Elementary School, followed by the A-rated Roosevelt Middle School. The A-minus-rated Raoul Wallenberg Traditional High School is named after a Swedish diplomat who saved tens of thousands of Jewish people in Nazi-occupied Hungary during World War II. The school’s curriculum emphasizes civic duty and humanitarianism, and students are expected to complete 100 hours of community service before graduating. The school also offers numerous AP courses and after-school programs, including 1-on-1 tutoring.Walkable to trendy dining and the City Center shopping mall
The neighborhood is within walking distance of shops, restaurants and nightlife. The Pig and Whistle is a welcoming bar with pub-style fare just north on Geary Boulevard. Divisadero Street, which borders the neighborhood's western side, is lined with more trendy bars and eateries, like Brenda’s Meat and Three, a southern, New Orleans-style restaurant. Next to this is Nopa, known for its California-inspired dishes and cocktails. City Center shopping mall is located within the neighborhood, with a Target, fast-food chains and small retail businesses. Trader Joe’s is located directly north of Anza Vista for grocery staples.Nearby community parks and iconic city recreational spaces
Anza Vista is close to the Raymond Kimbell Playground, a city park on Geary Boulevard with playscapes, baseball fields, picnic areas and a clubhouse. The famed Alamo Square is a few blocks southeast of the neighborhood, with a playground and vast green spaces that look out to the city’s iconic Painted Ladies corridor. The Panhandle and infamous Golden Gate Park are around the corner, full of locals exploring the museums, gardens and miles of leafy trails that feel far from built-up city landscapes. Plus, the expansive Presidio of San Francisco along the bay is located to the north.Next to Highway 101 and the Cole Valley BART Station
Highway 101 sits less than a mile west of Anza Vista, and there are multiple options for public transportation. "You've got easy access to the Muni, which gets people around the city, and BART travels across the Bay Area," Mead says. City buses make stops at almost every block, and the nearest light rail station is in Cole Valley, about a mile south. The San Fransisco International Airport is a 15-mile ride south for long-distance travel.Nearby annual community events
Neighboring districts just outside of Anza Vista hold a variety of community events. The AMC Kabuki 8 movie theater is located a few blocks north and hosts the city’s popular annual CAAMFest (formerly the San Francisco Asian American Film Festival). Next to this in Japantown is Peace Plaza, which hosts events, including the annual Cherry Blossom Festival in the Spring and a Halloween carnival.
