What makes Crocker Amazon feel like a suburb within the city
Crocker Amazon is a residential neighborhood at the southern edge of San Francisco. It's known for a hodgepodge of early-20th century homes perched along the hilly streets at the foot of San Bruno Mountain. It has a quiet, suburban feel compared to central San Francisco, and attracts a mix of families and young professionals. Although it feels removed from the bustle of the city, you can still walk to several major area parks and to the shops and restaurants on Mission Street. Commuting is also easy, with a short trek to Interstate 280 and the Balboa Park BART station.

Detached homes dating back to the early 20th century
Housing in Crocker Amazon includes a wide variety of architectural styles, including Marina, Victorian, Edwardian and midcentury modern, mostly dating to the early and mid-1900s. Detached homes with space in between, often 10 feet or more, are unusually common for San Francisco. The area also includes some condos and multifamily buildings for buyers seeking less upkeep. Many houses have been renovated and updated over the years. Homes generally range from the lower $800,000s to $1.5 million, marking it as a relatively affordable area in the city. “It’s one of the last frontiers of affordability for San Francisco,” says Realtor Janice Lee of Coldwell Banker Realty, who has been working in Bay Area real estate for over 20 years.

Families value the calm setting and close-knit neighborhood vibe
Families appreciate Crocker Amazon’s suburbanlike feel, quiet streets and strong sense of community. Detached homes and yards provide space for children to play, which is less common in many parts of the city. “There’s a real feel of community out there,” says Carren Shagley, a founder and Associate Broker with Legacy Real Estate. “People feel like they’re in a slightly different world from San Francisco. They’re removed from downtown, and there’s not a lot of congestion.”
San Francisco offers school choice for students
San Francisco uses a citywide school choice system, meaning families submit ranked preferences rather than receiving assignments tied strictly to their home address. This gives flexibility but also means their assigned school may not be the closest one. San Francisco schools consistently receive high marks. Top-rated options include Lowell High School, Ruth Asawa San Francisco School of the Arts and George Washington High School. Panorama Elementary School is within the neighborhood.

There are some crimes that happen but they do not really affect me much. A lot of hard-working lower-class immigrant families live here so for the most part, it is pretty relaxed. At night it could get a little scary but it's usually calm except for the occasional drunk driver doing O's near my house. Police officers regularly patrol the street of my neighborhood which increases my sense of safety. Overall, it may not look like it, but it is a pretty safe neighborhood.
