Jordan Park/Laurel Heights's focus is on education
With learning and innovation at its heart, Jordan Park/Laurel Heights is situated less than a mile east of Inner Richmond and south of the affluent Presidio Heights. The neighborhood was developed later than many of San Francisco’s well-established neighborhoods, so most of its homes weren’t built until at least the 1940s. As a result, the majority are contemporary-style homes and town houses, with a handful of Stick Victorian, Edwardian, and Italianate homes thrown into the mix.
A-rated public schools and university graduate programs
Students in the community attend George Peabody Elementary School. Niche gives it an A rating, as more than 80% of students show proficiency in math and reading. While students and families in the San Francisco Unified can apply to any secondary school they feel fits best, some choose to stay close to home at Roosevelt Middle School - which also gets an A from Niche - and Raoul Wallenberg High School. In 2023, U.S. News and World Report included it on its list of the nation's best high schools.
Jordan Park/Laurel Heights is also home to one of University of California San Francisco’s campuses. UCSF is dedicated to the health sciences and home to Nobel laureates, with the U.S. News & World Report ranking its hospital and education programs as among the best in the United States. The Laurel Heights Campus is the only UCSF campus dedicated to graduate and professional education and serves as a major center of learning, innovation and employment in the community.
Condos and modern single-family homes pricing in the millions
Expect a competitive and expensive market if you're seeking a home here. Recent sales show the lowest cost property — a classy 900-square-foot midcentury condo — sell for $1.1 million. Looking for even more space and privacy? One of the few completely detached homes single-family homes in the community sold for $2.6 million recently, while a stylish attached 2,600-square-foot Modernist-style house bathing in natural light sold for $3.4 million.
Local playground and preschool activities at the city college
Laurel Hill Playground is a cornerstone of the community, and not just because of its playground, baseball field and tennis and basketball courts. Every weekday during the school year, Child Development and Family Study students from the City College of San Francisco host a free teaching lab for toddlers and preschoolers, with activities, games and music for the children and their parents.
Fried chicken joints and neighborhood burger shacks
When it comes to shopping, the Laurel Village Shopping Mall offers a variety of options, including home goods, clothing and groceries. The mall also has a collection of popular restaurants, bakeries and coffee shops, which serves as the neighborhood's main draw for dining. Among locals’ favorite spots is Proposition Chicken, which serves fresh, crispy fried chicken and fries. It’s particularly popular because nearly anything on its menu, including the fried chicken, can be made gluten free. Just a few shops down, Super Duper Burgers serves burgers, garlic fries and shakes. On the southern side of the neighborhood, you’ll also find a Trader Joe’s.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
