Citaldi is a North San Jose neighborhood surrounding a large park

Midcentury homes sit alongside a sprawling park in Citaldi. The neighborhood is in the heart of San Jose’s Berryessa district, located in the northeastern corner of the city, between downtown and the small city of Milpitas. It’s close to highly rated schools, plenty of community parks, a major highway and a BART train station. “It’s a good commuting location, it’s close to the hills and you have some decent schools. But the prevailing reason why people like it is the commute. You’ve got a lot of tech people living in that area,” says Realtor Sherri Stoneberger of Legacy Real Estate, who has worked in the area for nearly 30 years.

Citaldi Park offers plenty of outdoor space and greenery

Citaldi Park occupies the center of the neighborhood, stretching for about 17 acres from Morrill Avenue to Interstate 680. Its tennis courts, walking trails, picnic areas and playgrounds are just blocks away for most residents. It’s a popular spot for walking dogs, jogging and riding bikes around its looping pathways. Santa Clara County’s sprawling hills, meadows and nature reserves are just a few miles away. “It’s a great spot for people who like the outdoors. It’s very close to hiking out in the hills east of San Jose,” Stoneberger says.

Midcentury homes that may appeal to first-time homebuyers

Citaldi’s homes were largely built in the late 1960s and ‘70s and feature an array of ranch-style and Traditional homes popular during the mid-20th century. They typically have attached garages and enough yard space for landscaping and gardening. Mediterranean detailing is also apparent – some homes have the red-tiled rooftops and off-white stucco siding that’s ubiquitous in many California suburbs. Prices typically range from $1.5 million to $2.5 million. “It’s within range for first-time homebuyers. It’s not in the luxury realm,” Stoneberger says. Safety is also part of the appeal for prospective homebuyers. The neighborhood gets a CAP Index Crime Score of 2 out of 10, compared to 4 nationally.
