Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools and schools of choice
School-age children may attend Shuman Elementary and Hubert Middle schools, which both earned C-minus grades from Niche. Older students may attend Johnson High School, which earned a C and was named a 2022 School of Excellence by ACT’s American College Application Campaign. The program honored just 23 schools nationally that are helping students pursue postsecondary success. High schoolers may also attend Savannah Arts Academy, an A-plus-rated arts school that offers majors in film studies, theatre, visual arts, dance and several music programs. The school is public but requires an academic screening and audition for acceptance.

Vertu Farm is an urban farm in the neighborhood that sustainably grows organic produce. The farm has a farmstand in Avondale and also sells its produce at the Forsyth Farmers Market less than 3 miles east of the neighborhood in Downtown Savannah. The Avondale Neighborhood Association is also committed to the community, hosting neighborhood clean-ups, open houses for residents to meet local politicians and open forums for neighborhood improvement. With the Harry Truman Parkway cutting just west of the neighborhood, residents can quickly navigate around Savannah. Avondale is within 4 miles of Downtown Savannah, Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), Savannah State University and Candler Hospital, and is less than 15 miles southeast of Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport.

Avondale residents shop along Victory Drive and Wallin Street in Victory Heights. Local artists and entrepreneurs sell their wares at VENDORS ON VICTORY, and residents can also find big box stores like Target and Whole Foods for everyday essentials.
