An appealing blend of home values and convenience in Midtown
The neighborhood of Sunset Park is an amenity-laden residential enclave tucked into the northeast corner of Midtown Savanah, filled with older, attractively priced homes on walkable, canopy-covered streets. Residents here enjoy proximity to schools, dining and retail options, access to major thoroughfares and more. “It’s really close to Memorial Hospital, close to Savannah State University and close to Daffin Park, where the Savannah Bananas play,” says Trisha Cook of Compass Real Estate, a longtime city resident who has sold homes in the neighborhood.

Ranch-style homes are the dominant residential feature
Traditional ranch-style homes built primarily in the 1950s are prominent among the neighborhood’s housing, many of which feature large yards and private driveways. Homes built after the neighborhood’s initial development tend to be smaller and include options like colorful bungalows and shotgun-style homes. Prices typically range from the mid-$100,000s to around $300,000. The neighborhood is not in a high-risk flood zone, but problem areas do exist east of Sunset Park as rivers, sounds and the ocean all converge. The neighborhood has been affected by hurricane-related storm surges and power outages in the past.

Carey Hilliard’s Restaurant is a popular city chain located along the corridor on the neighborhood's west side. “It’s an old Savannah restaurant with several locations,” says Kate Fowler, a Realtor with Century 21 Results who regularly lists homes in the area. “It’s known for its seafood, fried chicken and barbecue.” An array of eateries, including several soul food options, surround the retail centers just outside the neighborhood along Skidaway Road. Target and Home Depot are big-box anchors at the Victory Square shopping center, while Whole Foods and Kroger are nearby.

In addition to a playground, it also includes a basketball court and paved walkways. The neighborhood is home to the Fernwood/Parkwood Walking Trail. Four laps around the paved pathway equal one mile. Daffin Park is the recreational jewel of Midtown. In addition to being home to the Savannah Bananas, an exhibition barnstorming baseball team that plays at historic Grayson Stadium, the picturesque green space offers access to a swimming pool, tennis courts and a football field that is often busy with pee wee league football games. The park also hosts regular events, including charity runs and rugby tournaments.
