HOA subdivisions, condos and modern apartments
Most of the development around Jackson Road is commercial or industrial, but there are various housing options. Subdivisions like Kirkway and Trailwoods were added in the early 2020s, offering uniform rows of New Traditional homes. These properties range in price from $500,000 to $700,000 and tend to come with homeowners association fees, typically around $60 to $100 monthly. “People might be able to afford a house in Ann Arbor, but not the city’s high taxes,” says Mary Vandewiele, a Realtor with Reinhart Realtors with 25 years of real estate experience. “But this area offers similar home prices with a much more affordable township tax rate.”Other housing options on Jackson Road include Scio Village Condos, which has units from $250,000 to $350,000 and HOA fees of around $310. Scio Farm Estates is a large mobile home park. In 2024, construction began on Woodview Commons, a luxury rental home complex with a pool and private pickleball courts.
Private pools and golf courses at nearby clubs
Nearby public parks are all in Ann Arbor, but there are a few private recreational facilities just off Jackson Road. The Huron Valley Swim Club offers three pools, tennis courts, and outdoor trampolines. It is situated on 60 acres and has a park-like feel with mature trees and picnic areas. The member-only club hosts social events, sports teams and swim lessons. The current waitlist for Huron Valley is 4 years long, and membership fees vary from year to year.Polo Fields Golf & Country Club offers a golf course, pool and fine-dining restaurant. Family golf membership fees typically range from $640 to $265 monthly, with discounts for student or social-only memberships.
Part of the highly ranked Ann Arbor Public Schools district
Although Jackson is in Scio Township, it is still part of Ann Arbor Public Schools — the top district in Washtenaw County. Most of Jackson is zoned for Haisley Elementary School, which gets an A rating from the website Niche. All of Ann Arbor’s elementary schools are slated for major renovations in the coming years, but Haisley, which was built in 1954, is one of the last in line. The school’s renovation is in the planning stages and is expected to happen sometime between 2030-2040. Older kids move on to Forsythe Middle School, which also receives an A rating. Skyline High School gets a top A-plus grade and is known for its magnet programs, which include engineering, biomedical sciences and business.Noise from Jackson Road and I-94
Jackson Road and Interstate 94 connect into downtown Ann Arbor, about 6 miles away. The drive takes about 15 minutes, sometimes more like 25, when rush-hour traffic builds in the city. There is a bus line along Jackson Road that connects to downtown. Being so close to two major roads brings noise to the area. Ann Arbor is home to the University of Michigan and the U of M Hospital, the third largest employers in the state. Downtown is a bustling hub of restaurants and shops, with regular events like the Ann Arbor Art Fair or the Ann Arbor Film Festival. "It's a vibrant community," Ramirez says. For longer trips, the Detroit Metropolitan Airport is about 30 miles away.Authentic German cuisine and new restaurants
The Jackson Road corridor is home to big brand shops like Meijer, Menards and Lowe’s. There are also plenty of chain restaurants. “There’s no walkable town center area,” says Ramirez. “But there’s all the modern shopping conveniences you could ask for and a few quaint places to eat.” The family-owned Metzger’s has been serving authentic German cuisine since 1928. Popular dishes include potato pancakes or cabbage rolls, and German beers are served in clay mugs called “steins.” Carlyle Grill is a more modern option, offering a sophisticated atmosphere with a daily happy hour and a from-scratch menu showcasing seasonal produce. The newest addition to the area is Sam Hill, which opened in late 2023. Sam Hill serves classic American fare and has a large outdoor lawn stocked with games. Patrons can visit the outdoor bar for alcoholic slushies or soft serve ice cream and then play a game of bocce and cornhole.
