Pine Grove
Neighborhood in Shasta Lake, California
Shasta County 96019
Lower priced suburbs than Redding
The neighborhood is split by Interstate 5, with most homes in suburban communities to the west side. Meyer says, "You can find decent prices compared to subdivisions in Redding just because of the address." Homes sit on long drives and cul-de-sacs, with trees creating privacy between the midsize lots. Many even have enough backyard space for a pool. These midsize ranch-style and New Traditional homes range from $300,000 to $600,000. Deer Creek Manor is a newer community with a few streets of homes built in the 2010s. Its New Traditional homes range from $500,000 to $700,000, some with elevated views of mountains in the distance. The few streets east of I-5 are much older. Small 1970s ranch-style and manufactured homes are secluded from the road by mature trees, either sitting tucked together or spaced out on grassy lots. They range from $250,000 to $300,000.Summer hiking and watersports at Shasta Lake
The neighborhood has community parks, like Akard Park on the east side, with a playground and fenced-in dog park. However, when locals are looking to get outside, chances are they're heading 8 miles north to Shasta Lake. Shasta Lake is technically a reservoir held back by Shasta Dam, making it California's largest artificial lake. Millions of visitors are attracted to its shores every year for watersports and hiking across the surrounding mountains. Its popularity provides many summer jobs for folks in nearby neighborhoods like Pine Grove. When the weather isn't cooperating, Oasis Fun Center offers indoor amusement in the neighborhood, such as laser tag and arcade games.Central Valley High gets a B-plus
The neighborhood is part of the Gateway Unified School District, which is rated a B-minus overall by Niche. Students go to the Shasta Lake School, graded a C-plus, for kindergarten through eighth grade. They finish at Central Valley High School, graded a B-plus. Central Valley prides itself on having a college-prep atmosphere. Students regularly meet with counselors and teachers to make sure they're meeting requirements through all four years of school and have all their test scores and forms ready for application season.Seven miles to downtown Redding
Interstate 5 runs down the center of the neighborhood, giving commuters a convenient drive to employers in downtown Redding, just over 7 miles south. The city has two large hospitals and growing business opportunities in the revitalized heart of the Market Street district. Hilltop, Redding's industrial hub, is the same distance away on the city's east side. Commuters can also take I-5 about 165 miles south to Sacramento. Redding Regional Airport is 15 miles away, in the city's southeast corner. It offers flights to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Burbank and Seattle.Shasta County wildfires
Shasta County is no stranger to wildfires, like the 2018 Carr Fire, which burned hundreds of homes in northwest Redding, just a few miles from Pine Grove. It enveloped over 200,000 acres of Shasta County and Trinity County. Homeowners are encouraged to remove flammable brush and materials from the perimeter of their homes to prevent fires from spreading into residential areas.Storied restaurants like Joe's Giant Orange Cafe
Joe's Giant Orange Cafe is a legendary local establishment on Cascade Boulevard in the neighborhood. It's easy to spot thanks to the bright orange paint job and the giant orange out front, which is the original structure. The orange opened in the 1940s as a juice stand and as ownership changed hands over the years, the restaurant was built alongside it. It's still locally owned and serves fresh-squeezed orange juice with Mexican and American fare from breakfast to dinner. The neighborhood has other eateries like Roadrunner Grill, serving a variety of food, from tacos and wraps to fish and chips. Groceries are 2 miles north at Farmers Market Place on Shasta Dam Boulevard. Retail shopping is 7 miles south at Mt. Shasta Mall in Redding.
