New homes and outdoor fun draw families to Northeast Sioux Falls

Sioux Falls is a midwestern city known for its cascading waterfalls. Its inner-city neighborhoods offer a vibrant selection of restaurants and shopping plazas, while outer suburbs, like Northeast Sioux Falls, have newly built subdivisions within reach of schools, ski mountains and golf courses. Suzie Bunkers, lifelong resident of Sioux Falls and real estate agent at Re/Max Professionals, says, “It’s a good town to raise a family in. We have good opportunities, parks and great shopping.”

New Traditional and Craftsman homes span wide price ranges

Tall maple and bur oak trees provide shade for many of the area's lush lawns. The Pine Lakes Addition features many New Traditional homes built in the 2020s. Closer to town, older houses rest along tree-lined streets with spacious quarter-acre lots. The neighborhood's architectural styles include New Traditional, Craftsman and ranch-style homes, ranging in price from $170,000 to $2.6 million. Pricing depends on size, as some homes are nearly 6,500 square feet and may be on a spacious plot of land. Townhouses cost between $200,000 and $650,000. The Sanctuary is a housing development with lot sizes ranging from half-an-acre to 3 acres, located near the Willow Run Golf Course. "There are lots for sale in the Sanctuary," Bunkers says. "I have two for sale, just waiting to be built on. They go for $350,000 to $2 million."

Sioux Falls is in Minnehaha County, an area that may be prone to extreme blizzards and winter storms, with an average annual snowfall of up to 45 inches. Snow buildup and heavy rainfall can cause the Sioux River to flood in some residential areas. The city is also in the path of Tornado Alley, which experiences high winds because of the air from the Gulf Coast and its flat terrain.
