Remote living with easy access to Beaumont

Sour Lake in Sour Lake, Texas, was the birthplace of Texaco, but today, people living in the Pinewood Estates and the greater Sour Lake area can spend their days golfing, hunting for white-tailed deer and enjoying a remote country lifestyle nestled among pine trees. Golfers will love their proximity to the Idylwild Golf Club, while hunters will want to head to the Big Thicket National Preserve to catch a white-tailed deer. Residents can find locally grown produce at God’s Green Earth Market and Café or head to Big P’s Ultimate BBQ Shack for some comfort classics. Homes in the Sour Lake area are primarily older, ranch-style properties that sit on spacious lots, but prospective residents can also find newer constructions throughout the area. While people are drawn to this area’s remote lifestyle, another “big draw for people moving here is the Hardin-Jefferson School District,” says Dayna Simmons, a Real Estate Broker at Dayna Simmons Real Estate who has sold over 50 homes in the area.

Mid-century ranch-style properties and new constructions

Mid-century ranch-style properties populate most of the Pinewood Estates, and the greater Sour Lakes area, but prospective homebuyers can find newer properties in places like the Holly Trails Subdivision. Homes here range from upwards of $100,000 for a 3-bedroom ranch-style property in need of renovation to upwards of $600,000 for a new 4-bedroom home in the subdivision. Many properties sit on spacious lots surrounded by oak and pine trees, creating a remote feel to the area. Most homes have carports or attached garages, so residents don’t often have to park on the area’s narrow streets, which also don’t often have sidewalks. The Sour Lakes area also has various lots for sale, ranging from under an acre to over 400, for those interested in custom-built homes.
