Terra Bella is surrounded by farmland known for citrus fruit and nuts
Numbered routes cut through citrus groves and rows of nut trees on the way to Terra Bella. A Central Valley community about 8 miles south of Porterville, the area draws residents looking for rural living and large lots. “They like having extra space and hobby farms,” says Ernie Nichols, a Realtor with Legacy Real Estate, who has over 20 years of experience. “In a lot of areas, homes have Terra Bella water. Some of them are on wells, but some have water in a rural area, which is cool.”

Cottages and ranch-style homes with acreage, ADUs and palm trees
Narrow, weathered sidewalks trace the streets that form Terra Bella’s rectangular residential patch. Cottages and ranch-style homes come with fenced yards, and towering palm tree trunks end in leafy clusters that hover in the background. Homes on the outskirts of town come on spacious lots — some over 3 acres — leaving room for accessible dwelling units, studios or mobile homes. Prices range from $240,000 to $560,000.

The Dutch Frontier garners attention despite its remote location
Los Amigos Restaurant offers authentic, homemade Mexican cuisine — and the occasional buffet — in a Spanish Revival-style building. Nearby, Family Foods & Gas 3 carries fresh produce and other groceries. To the south, the neighboring community of Ducor is home to a diamond in the rough when it comes to restaurants. The Dutch Frontier, open since 1965, is known for its high-quality steaks, which are paired with baked Idaho potatoes and seasonal vegetables and preceded by courses of French onion soup and Romaine salad with homemade dressing. “It’s defied all the odds of ‘location, location, location,’” Nichols says. “It’s in the middle of nowhere, and it’s high-end. I’ve known people to fly in to eat there.” The restaurant’s signature drink is the lemon drop, though classics like the espresso martini, a black Manhattan and the paper plane are on the menu as well.
